I found of interest the reviewer who said they were so friendly and welcoming… err NOT. I am staying at the Millenniuim Hotel across the courtyard from Frankie’s. I fondly remember it as «The Shed Bar» four years ago when I stayed at the Copthorn next door to Frankie’s. There were six of us who were meeting a friend there and then have a few pints and perhaps a dinner, but definitely wanted to check out the new digs. We walked in and one of my friends were already waiting on a sofa so… me and my mate joined her and contemplated whether we should order a pint or wait until our guest arrived. We decided to stay put for now. There was one couple in the entire place having a drink. No one welcomed us or talked to us until a bloke in a suit came over and asked if we were with a party. I replied no, we were waiting on a friend to join us in a few minutes. He looked at me again and asked if we were with the private party? I again said no, there would be six of us and they would be here in just a few minutes. He then was able to articulate enough to let us know that there was a private party starting at 6pm.(again it was about 5.50 and no-one was in the place)… I said oh… would it be okay if we just waited in their foyer until our guest arrrived… he responded NO. WTF… really? Why so rude… We all kinda looked at each other surprised, and he gestured with his hand the front door… so we left… our guest called and told us he was going to be an hour late so we waited in the Club Lounge in our hotel and enjoyed a nice free happy hour. Our guest arrived and we headed out… btw we walked past Frankie’s which was still empty on our way to Nayaab for dinner and drinks. I guess that would be the Frankie’s equivalent of making you feel like your at home and friendly… perhaps an ex-spouses home… Besides anyplace with that much leatherette all around, would make anyone feel like they are in a porn set.

Launched by Marco Pierre White and Frankie Dettori, you would expect it to be top notch, and it is. With superb service, a unique look and feel and great food it’s a spot you can’t miss. The atmosphere is quite glamorous with giant disco balls, large green trees, mirrored walls and a black and gold theme. But to bring it back down to earth, the tables are covered in traditional red and white checked tabled cloths. It sounds a little weird, but it does actually work really well. But, the best bit of décor has to be the photo of Gordon Ramsey’s head on a platter. The rivalry continues. The food is also delicious. We had a special starter of calamari. I went on to have the lobster spaghetti and John had the t-bone steak. The lobster was perfectly sweet to balance with the slightly spicy tomato sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender, almost melting in your mouth. The only downfall is that the portions are too large, so if I went back I would feel guilty ordering a starter. It’s just such a waste of food. One last thing worth mentioning… they have a few rooms that would be great for private parties. I think I’ve found my birthday dinner location. Overall, Frankie’s was fantastic. I just love Italian restaurants. They always make you feel welcome so welcome and at home. It’s wonderful to have this spot in my backyard!

I was taken here by a friend who lives local to Frankie’s. I loved this place from the moment I walked in. My friend comes here often and knew the manager so we got a warm welcome and what seemed like special treatment, it was great. Frankie’s really reminded me of an experience I had going to a really popular Italian restaurant in Brooklyn NY where whole families would go to eat and have a great time. You got the real Italian feel in this place. I ordered the Frankie’s pizza(7.50) which came with parma ham my favorite. It was really good. I did begin to wish I had ordered the burger however when I saw one being delivered to the table next to us, it looked fantastic and the bloke told me it was as good as it looked. My friend had the Gorgonzola salad followed by the Tiramisu which I could not resist helping her, very generous :) I wish I lived closer to Frankie’s because I would make this one of my regular haunts. They have really exceptional food at great prices. Highly recommended.
