Gelato Mio

Excellent sorbet and ice cream, nothing more to say! Servings are a good size, flavours are excellent, and there is a wide selection.
ONLY thing keeping this from being a 5 is that the store itself is disgusting. The toilet has no seat (so you have to just sit on the base…) and the whole washroom is disgusting every time I’m there. The tables are always covered in grime, nobody seems to clean them. There is no A/​C that I can detect so in the summer, be prepared to nearly pass out from heat.
So the shop is gross, but the ices are so good that it’s a 4 star!

Watch out! This Gelato Mio suffers from SCS (Small Cone Syndrome) and MSS (Mardy Server Syndrome)! Both very important to avoid in the field of gelato eating.
Twice in as many months I have been here and the ice cream have been at least ½ the size of what they used to serve. This is ON TOP of the price increased they have slapped on making it SUPER expensive. Normally the ice cream last well until I get home, today it was gone before I even got onto my street. Thank fully the one at Notting Hill Gate seems to be unaffected (just yet). Slap SCS together with MSS and Houston, we have a problem.
Also, as a side note, the ice cream I had today wasn’t even good. The base of the cherry wasn’t tangy (yoghurty) as usual, but is rather watery and I was sure the Black Forest was really good last time with lots of cherries and biscuity bits that was missing this time, so it was like a dark chocolate with some amarena topping– how lazy ass is that?
As I have noticed the chain has expanded quite a lot quickly, could it be they don’t have enough money for giving you a decent sized ice cream (oh, that gelupo giant) or for proper QA at the factory? How I missed they days when the ice creams were made on site.
(In fact 1 not 2 stars because it was just SO BAD compared with before the deluge of this summer)

Very good gelato, very mediocre cappuccino, very family friendly. So family friendly the noise of screaming children will keep you from being able to hear the person next to you.

It’s ice cream… just as good as it gets.

We were in the area and it was a warm day and felt like an ice-​cream. So we thought it was lucky to find this place. We decided to treat ourselves and go for the Sundaes.
Firstly, I had to wait for ages although they weren’t really busy. The guys behind the counter were just really slow!
Then the person that served us didn’t know what the sundaes were! Just turn back and check it out on the menu board on the wall, it is right there!
Then she had no idea about how to make them. At that stage, we really should have walked out. Instead, we stayed. That was a big mistake.
She took forever while learning how to make them. It was taking so long that someone else suggested that we sat at our table and they would bring them when they were ready.
It was at least 10 more minutes until they were served, if not more.
Although my expectations weren’t that great at this stage, I thought that they would be well made having taken so long. Second mistake.
They were just a huge ball of cream with one small scoop of chocolate ice-​cream at the bottom, just one!
Seriously, I get furious even now writing it down and re-​living it.
At £8 per sunday, you really should get it right! I so should have asked for the money back. That was my third mistake, never again!

My friend joy o. (her review below this) recommend this amazing gelato maker. While standing in line, it was recommended by many of the locals to order their pistachio gelato. We’re so glad we did!
If you love pistachios than this pistachio gelato is a dream come true. With every lick, you get a taste of nutty goodness. We’re not to sure how they made this cup of yumminess but we guess they ground the nuts before mixing it into the recipe. The consistency of the gelato was perfect. It was just incredible. You won’t be disappointed. Just do it. RIght now. Go. Now. =)

Visited this place again after a good experience in February and were shocked how dirty the place was. Also they had no cream because the machine was broken? Icecream without cream?
Also there were no menues anymore as they have probably not reprinted them. Clear to see that this premise had not seen the boss for some time, or he doesn’t care anymore.
One star today for this negative experience

There’s ice cream and then there’s gelato. I don’t think that there is a single person in the world that loves gelato as much as me. I must also mention that I have probably tried just about every gelateria in Italy, and have come to the conclusion that when it comes to London, Gelato Mio is just as good as the real thing! The have all the popular flavors made with quality and fresh ingredients that most people request and then every now and then they have some fun and quirky flavors like English Breakfast Tea, just to mix up the grind. Want sorbets? Yup! They have that too! People there are really friendly and generous with their serving at times. Single scoop (entitled to 2 flavors) on a cone is £2.60, which is the going price for Gelato in this town. Seating is not so favorable as there aren’t many. This gelateria has also opened up another shop in Notting Hill.
Note to frequent gelato eaters: pick up a loyalty card and get a free double scoop for every 10 you buy!

I am a fan of Ice Cream as is, This place just took it to another level. In the U.S. we have Cold Stone Creamery and this place just blew Cold Stone out of the water. It sucks because all of Ice Cream /​Gelato were good that I couldn’t make decisions on which one I wanted so the server gave me have Carmelo (I think that’s what is was called) and half black cherry. The combination wasn’t bad at all. My server was very helpful and was the one that suggested to get half and half. The actual mix was pretty good. The place over all was nice and I like to fact they had couches to sit on as well. I know I need to go again before I go back to the U. S

Very special, one of those rare places that really does serve natural ice cream with no added chemicals of any kind with first class ingredients. The service also could not be more friendly.
For the discerning this is a real treat.
A single scoop in a tub is the same size as two scoops in a normal place. However it is 2.90 pounds for a scoop so i would love it if i could buy a smaller but lower priced scoop as for me that is a lot. I can see why they have done it though as it is a rich area.

They are even considerate enough to have gluten and soy free labels. That was a definite plus when visiting with friends that have allergies. The flavors are plentiful and the staff is super friendly. They have games downstairs that you can play as you snack on the delicious gelato.
I thought it would be something over-​hyped, but have enjoyed it on numerous occasions. The ‘connect-​four’ game is missing a few pieces, but that’s not really a problem. The ice cream and setting are both great and you definitely try this place is you’re craving some serious gelato!

This place is a total rip off. Despite the fact there were four staff in the place when we went the one guy actually serving behind the counter didn’t know how to make an ice cream sundae and seemed to not know what it was despite the fact it was writ large on a huge board behind him. He showed us the menu to ask if this was it. It had the same name but the ingredients were totally different! When the ‘sundae’ arrived it was actually two scoops of ice cream and nothing else (it was supposed to be three scoops plus cream, plus sugar curls). Zilch. He forgot our tea. And one of the scoops of ice-​cream had completely melted over the other. He said they had a ‘problem’ with it. CALL HEALTH AND SAFETY!!! We asked for the sugar curls they never came ditto the tea!!! He said it was because they were BUSY! they had two customers me and my friend. And there were FOUR staff in the place. Five other customers were finishing when we got there. TERRIBLE place. With the ambience of a morgue and might turn into one if they serve any more completely melted ice cream to their customers. I recommend Oddonos in south ken. Great service and exactly the same ice cream but not melted! Also, Harrods ice cream bar is amazing. Never going back to Gelato rip off again. I would give zero stars but that doesn’t seem to be possible.

Gelato Mio in Holland Park is my favourite place to eat ice cream outside of Berlin (yes, really, the best ice cream I ever had was in Berlin). Their serving sizes are gut-​bustingly generous — especially if you get a sundae! Good Lord they’re massive. They’re definitely more made for two! The quality is amazing, the flavours authentic, and it’s lovely to sit outside in the summer, too.

Last time I was in Italy, I averaged about 4 Gelato a day. Since returning to New York, I rarely ever have Gelato because it just isn’t up to my standards after having the real deal. Although Gelato Mio doesn’t open up Gelato consumption opportunities in the US, it makes me feel better that it exists somewhere other than in a freezer cart on the streets of Rome or Florence. Gelato Mio was the perfect end to a busy shopping day on Portobello Road. The staff was more than willing to allow patrons to taste as many flavors as they want until finding the perfect one. Personally, I recommend the Boccio, a chocolate hazelnut concoction also known as divinity. They also had a vast amount of seating downstairs… which I would like to add, is air-​conditioned. I highly endorse this wonderful establishment, it makes me feel better that I can get acquire authentic Gelato somewhere other than Italy.

WOW can you get a busier place in the heatwave? We went for Gelato and you would have thought the world is to end the way people were ordering their Gelato. It was great viewing and the staff looked like they could not wait for the day to end.
Patience if I could sell in a Jar in London I think I would have been the fastest made Billionaire!!! It was great to watch everyone eat their Gelato as if there were in a race at London 2012.
This place is amazing with great choices and difference in flavours.
I went for the Pistachio and Hazelnut flavours. Light, full of flavour and very tasty I can understand why everyone there seemed like they new this place like the back of their hand.
We drove for 10 mins to get here and it was well worth it.
If you are anywhere in West London or Central you must go here for Gelato.

hunting around for a dessert place after dinner on a bank holiday night is no fun!
but after driving around for a bit, we were ecstatic that mio was open.
even happier when we found a lot just across the street.
normally, there’s a queue but our timing was perfect.
the queue started to form after we got our fix and were settled at our table.
the choice of gelato was not shabby but not fantastic.
i had the limone on a cone.
it was a nice crispy cone with a decent size dollop of gelato.
the limone packed a sour punch and was definitely a good palate cleanser.
what i like was the nice touch of a rolled wafer that doubled up as a gelato scoop.
they also serve illy coffee!
which is a plus plus in my books.:)

I went to this Gelato Mio location after visiting their shop on Villiers St. Much larger and more diverse than the small shop, I found this full sized Gelato Mio to be lovely as a cup of tea. I don’t know if the tea they serve is lovely, but their gelato is.
The place apparently mixes all their own gelato — none of that pre-​made stuff — so each scoop is a gooey ball of goodness. Also, this means that the flavors change often. In the words of David Bowie, «Ch-​ch-​ch-​ch-​ch-​ch-​chaaanges!»
During nicer weather, I’ve seen some outdoor tables, which is always a winner in my book.
So, if you’re around Holland park and your sweet tooth starts knocking on your door, I’d recommend a stop in.
