Specialties
Fortified wines from the barrel, wines from across the world and an extensive cheese board form our signature. Join us for a quiet lunch or enjoy the buzz of the evening, both within our cellar bar or on the sheltered terrace of Watergate Walk.
We offer a broad and considered wine list of over 80 varieties, with more than 50 sold by the glass. Uniquely we have a very special selection of madeira, port and sherry served from the barrel.
To accompany our lovely wines we offer up to 20 varieties of cheese. If you want something other than cheese we have traditional pork pies and steak pies, cold cuts and poached salmon or freshly prepared in-house hot dishes of the day enthusiastically prepared by our creative chefs!
History
Established in 1890.
In a backwater not two minutes from Charing Cross, lies Gordon’s, a small unobtrusive wine house.
Wine has been sold on this site since 1890, making Gordon’s the oldest wine bar in London. The bar was formerly owned by Arthur Gordon who, as a free vintner was allowed to open premises and sell wine without a licence. Gordon’s wine bar was purchased by Luis Gordon (co-incidentally sharing the same surname) in 1974 and following the sad death of Luis in 2002, the bar is now owned by his wife Wendy and run by his eldest son Simon.
Gordon’s continues to maintain its tradition and sells only wines, sherries, Ports and Madeiras in its dusty, Dickensian wine-cellar. The food is famous for its flavour, selection and generosity and has a fine choice of cheeses and salads along with the main dishes.
The bar has a long history, more of which you can discover at the wine bar, and there is also a lot more information on the internet at www.gordonswinebar.com (the only site with dust on it!).
