The Great Wall was no great find. We called in our order to a disinterested teenager manning the phone and opted to pick up. The front signage needs a serious pick-me-up but the interior is clean and spacious. As for the food, we went for a comparison meal and order special fried rice and special noodles. Prawn crackers are high on my list of favourite foamy munchies, but no free bag was included. The noodles and rice lacked meat or anything for that matter, thank God we ordered curry sauce because it was very dry. Too bad the sauce was too heavy on the curry. This is one hole-in-the-wall venue I don’t plan on meeting again. Unfortunately it was just food, no decadent treat.

Great Wall takeaway looks shabby from the outside, yet in true Unilocal fashion, I was willing to put my belly on the line. A takeaway doesn’t need to have glossy designs or stunning service as it is the food that scores the important points. Great Wall lacked a little in both service and aesthetic eye appeal, so the food had to withstand my critical eye to be awarded any credit. I ordered my usual special rice and special noodles with curry sauce. I didn’t receive any free prawn crackers. This may be because my bill only came to £9. I have no right to expect free crackers, but many places do give them. Unfortunately the food did not rock my world. There was a tiny amount of meat in the noodles and the dish did not pertain to its ‘Special’ title. The rice equally lacked sustenance, and had a few scrapings of meat and veg. The taste was basic and lacked any pazaazz. The whole experience was simply lacklustre, and unless they improve greatly, I would not recommend.
