Depending on which review website you visit Guru gets mixed reviews. The food is always praised highly and the service tends to be a bit clunky. Last night we popped in to see what Guru had to offer. The food was excellent, really tasty and good portion sizes too. Neither of us could find fault with our starters, mains or sides as we worked our way through them. Service was ok but you can see where the mixed reviews come from. We had a great evening and there are few places you can get a great meal for two with drinks and spend less than £40. We will be back very soon.

TLDR? Scroll to the bottom of the review. Went here for some late night takeaway about an hour and a half before closing time, and the reception we received was rather unwelcoming. We were seated and were pretty quick with our decisions. We told the server we wanted takeaway and were immediately and unceremoniously shuffled to a table at the back that is for takeaways. Not like the restaurant was packed. There were only two other tables of customers. Okay, fine. We order two curries and two kingfisher beers. We get cobras. No big deal, we aren’t that fussy. The bill gets just about thrown on the table by a rather unfriendly server. Woah, what was that about? We pay the bill which gets picked up brusquely by another grim faced server and order two more beers as the food hasn’t come out yet. Food comes out a minute after we get our beer. Awesome, we’ll drink these and head out. About 1⁄3 of the way through our beers a server walks by and says in an annoyed voice,“your food is getting cold”. Ffs, okay, we’re going! We chugged our beers and left. The food was mediocre and grainy to add insult to injury. TLDR: Unwelcoming, unfriendly, rude service and the food was a resounding meh.

Small place, nice staff and really good bhajii side dishes! Once I realized the side dish bhaji(i) is actually a dish and not like a fried bhaji, I’ve been in heaven! They are very accommodating in making the menu vegan friendly for me. The other half loves their thalis because he can have a little bit of everything for a really good price. It’s a no frills kinda place and that’s why I like it!

Nice little spot. Staff are friendly. It was Monday night and the place had 3 other tables, all loaded with men talking football(Man U’s bad show on the weekend) and office. The food was good. They have a decent range of the usual suspects: bhuna, bhajee, marsala, jalfrezi, paneer, naan. You can’t go wrong. Prices are good. Seats are comfortable. What’s not to like?

I can say to the fans of Indian food to go to in any case Guru Tandoori Restaurant. The food is decent, not disappointing like in the most Indian restaurants. The staff is friendly and smiled. The prices can be classified as cheap. The perfect place for a meal.

We don’t eat Indian food out a lot as we prefer to cook it at home, having been disappointed so much with Indian restaurants in the past. Since we went here we have returned twice in six months. Each time the service was attentive without being intrusive, The food was well prepared and well presented and hot at the point of delivery. The price was very reasonable but don’t expect to walk in and get a table between eight and ten o’clock or you could well be disappointed. I do recommend it if you like spicy foods and, coming from Africa, I do.

You’d easily just walk past this place — just of the high road — but I’d definitely recommend going in. Small local Indian which has been here under the same management for as long as I can remember. Usual range of stuff but they serve the curries really hot — which is just fantastic for me! The jalfrezi is especially good and the prices are low.
