Vile, nasty, underhand and downright illegal!
They rely on bullying and threatening tactics. I hope that they are closed down with no further delay and their workforce imprisoned, but only after being named and shamed.
I had cancelled a hire purchase agreement with Welcome Finance in 2004, having exceeded the minimum payments required to do so.
Three years later HFO put me under enormous pressure to pay the balance of this debt, despite my sending copies of the cancellation letters and recorded delivery receipts. They were threatening, abusive, intimidating and passed me over to their solicitors, Turnbull Rutherford.
In late December, 2007, it was agreed with Hisam Siddiqui of TR that they would take me to County Court as I would not give in to their blackmail demands. Surprise, surprise, I heard nothing until June 27 this year when I received a Notice of Assignment from HFO. The debt had been ramped up from £4485 to £5746.85.
They wrote again on 6/​7, having added £12 interest and advising that after three days the account will move to the solicitors desk for legal action against me. There were threats of Court Bailiffs, order to Obtain Information against me. They had, that day received a recorded delivery letter from me refuting the debt and threatening them with the police.
Today, 18 July, I received a 72-​Hour Notice Of Litigation from them.
I am disabled and only work a few hours a week, having only returned to work 10 weeks ago following 18 months off suffering from stress and depression. This whole business has made me ill again.
I have always suspected this company of fraud and extortion and, having Googled them today have found umpteen listings of complaints against them.
I did report them to Trading Standards at the height of HFO’s previous campaign against me– their advice was to pay it. No stars awarded!
