All the way out in Bank on Queen Victoria street but worth the trip from Richmond! The husband made an appointment on Thursday evening to finally get his homeless mane trimmed and they fit him in on the following Saturday at 1:00pm. We arrived to the salon a bit before one and noticed each Japanese hair dresser(about three of them) was quietly servicing their clients over soft music. The gal at the front desk introduced herself warmly and promptly led the husband to a seat. We showed her a few«inspiration» images we saved from the interwebz and she seem to have understood what we wanted. She was snipping away for at least 30 minutes(I appreciate her attentiveness to detail). I looked up from my magazine and lo and behold… I have a brand new, hot husband. It was shocking what some layers, a few strategic snips here and there could do for a man. After that, they were off to wash his new hot hair, came back to the original chair to get a nice head/neck/shoulder massage before blow dry and style. After the blow dry, she snipped a little more. We both loved her so much that we got her card. Will update with her name.

Moriyama is my favorite salon. I get a great cut and color and my blowouts are perfect each time. The staff are very friendly, and you get a wonderful quick massage at the end. They also never make fun of my silly attempt to speak Japanese.

Just got back from this salon. Used my lunch break for a quick fringe trim. I paid a more than usual, but the service was very thorough and I love my fringe. They did a great job and were very detail oriented. I would definitely go back for a full cut!

Found this salon using Unilocal.Thank goodness. What a great experience. A nice clean haircut to tame the mane, a very sweet stylist who asked questions but also gave expert opinion(which I usually ask for), and no real surprises. Except for the hot tea and shoulder massage, but those were nice surprises! :) Prices very reasonable especially compared to what I’ve heard friends in the area have paid for a simple cut/blowdry. 42GBP for the THOROUGH shampoo, cut, blowdry/style, shoulder massage, and hot green tea. Thanks, Aki! I’ll be back and will tell my friends.

i have always loved japanese salons. i needed a haircut bad, so when i found this salon, i was really excited. i asked for soichi after reading this review, but he has since left the salon. i was able to make an appointment w/a female hairdresser named«an» instead who was very nice and took time to make sure the cut was right. i was her last apptmt of the evening but she still took her time, which was nice. i didn’t get a massage unfortunately though, but i’m happy w/the cut.

I love Japanese hairdressers. I’m very picky with hairdressers. Some have made me cry but I’ve always been quite happy with Japanese hairdressers. They’re polite. They give me massages. They listen to me. They know my hair type. They smile. I was recommended by a friend to Shoichi. «Veronica, try him. He’s AWESOME! He does catwalk shows and I saw him snapping away and voila done!». My friend is right :) £38 for a haircut in London? I say that’s alright!

I generally like my hair pretty funky. And I’m pretty cheap. Unfortunately I like my hair a bit funkier than what I can get from a recent hairdressing graduate who works at the kinds of salons I can afford. Enter: my visit to J Moriyama, a local branch of Japanese hair salons. At £35 a cut(with none of this increased-price for ‘redesign’ chicanery), the price was a happy medium between Supercuts butchery and Vidal Sassoon highway robbery. I came in with a picture of something slightly animé-looking, explained the stylist could do whatever he wanted, and left with a great new funky ‘do. This place is seriously Japanese, and I enjoyed every minute of it. When I arrived, I found that my name was written in the appointment book as ‘Rarissa’(bless). My stylist, Soichi, was really congenial and upbeat throughout the entire cut, and even though I gave him free reign on my mop he verified everything he did to it with me first. After the third or fourth time I told him he could do whatever he wanted, he divulged that the Japanese are very particular about their hair and that requests to take 2 mm off the fringe aren’t foreign to him. So I suppose if you’re the polar opposite of me and want something really particular and technical that j. moriyama would also be right up your alley. So, yeah, my hair is truly fab and it was only £35. No drink or fancy treatment, but the hair wash was brisk and invigorating, the facility was posh and had a current array of magazines and I wasn’t charged anything extra by surprise.(Did you know that Vidal Sassoon salons charge you for a blow dry on top of your cut? Cheeky! Who’s going to leave with a wet head?)
