…from a stocked Showroom in London’s West End is KLEINS, in the very heart of Soho. Here one can shop or browse through the most varied and comprehensive ranges of Haberdashery in the Capital!
This place is an absolute gem. Ever since the haberdashery in John Lewis took such a downturn I’ve been looking for somewhere good in central London to buy buttons, ribbons, and various trimmings, and I think this is it! The stock is absolutely huge, at least for buttons and belt clasps, which is what I was after. They also seemed to have a good array of patches, dyes, and studs, and hard to find things like clasps for bras and waistcoats. I went in one lunch time and even though the place was really busy the nice chap behind the counter still made the time to have a good chat with me about the buttons I was buying for my old tatty coat and even kindly suggested I could return them if they turned out to not be quite right. Only thing to look out for is that it’s not open on weekends. Nevertheless, still a great find and I will be recommending the place to all my crafty friends and colleagues.

Kleins is not open on the weekend which is a shame. I saw a board of feathers through the window and thought I’d have to come back during the week since I needed feathers for a fascinator I’m making. So I had a Friday off work and made a trip especially to Kleins for the feathers I’d seen. But when I got there, they only had two of the 10 colours of feathers. They need to replenish their feather stock. Aside from that they seem to have a great array of haberdashery. I did get some nice ribbon there.

Hurrah for Kleins! This place is a treasure trove of haberdashery goodness. Everything you need for your sewing needs — pins, needles, cotton, ribbon, trimmings, buttons, bag handles, eyelets, etc. They even have pipe cleaners and bra wire! I was good and bought only what i needed but think i will go back to buy their craft sets as gifts for friends(and maybe for myself). They have ones for making purses, hats, laptop bags etc. Lots of haberdashery fun! I thought the staff could have been a bit more attentive and friendlier. Maybe it was too early in the morning for them? Anyway a much more enjoyable haberdashery shopping experience than going to John Lewis. Plus, i love the word haberdashery!

Eclectic window displays give a hint of what’s hidden inside — lace trim, woven badges, fastenings and more. A proper haberdashery in Soho… it’s probably cheaper to shop online generally, but then you don’t see to see the merchandise in person. If at all possible go outside of lunchtimes etc when it gets frantically busy. The staff are reasonably helpful but don’t get to spend a lot of time with you in rush hour, which is fair enough. Stock all manner of trimmings including corsetry and lingerie supplies, purse frames and extensive collections of elastic and ribbon, interfacings etc.

This is a great place to find trimmings and extra bits to customise clothes with. They’ve got everything in here, it’s a real Aladdin’s cave and such fun to browse. It’s also not horribly expensive although not cheap either. They sell both new and vintage things so you can find something unusual. An excellent independent shop in Soho.

We recently went in to buy some ribbon to wrap Christmas presents, and came out an hour later having spent £35 and laden with buttons, badges and vintage knitted trimming. Though small, the shop is crammed full of everything you would ever need to make well, anything! The far room is dedicated entirely to buttons– vintage, designer copies, nautical and gaudy sequinned 1980s metallics. Boxes and boxes are piled up on top of each other in neat rows. Elsewhere in the shop there are walls and walls of ribbons, zips, bag handles, elastics and ropes. This is an excellent haberdashers.
