History
Established in 1981.
Luke Hughes was established in 1981 in London’s Covent Garden and remains in its original studio in Drury Lane. Covent Garden has long been renowned for its history of fine cabinet making having once been home to Thomas Chippendale’s studio.
The Luke Hughes team has since grown into a leading agency in its field working with both domestic and international clients.

Luke Hughes specialises in designing furniture in architecture, embodying the
highest standards of British design, production and craftsmanship. Luke acquired
cabinet-making skills in the 1970s while working with the harpsichord maker Michael Johnson (during school and university holidays) before studying History of
Architecture at Cambridge University.
His studio was established in 1981 in Covent Garden, where it still resides, and he has since designed furniture for more than 50 Oxford and Cambridge colleges, 100
parish churches, 21 cathedrals, 5 Royal Palaces, 6 synagogues (including two in New York) and more than 900 boardrooms for major city corporations.
A regular writer for the architectural profession, (mostly on timber and materials) Luke lectures internationally on sustainability. In 2010, he was shortlisted for a
Walpole Award for British Luxury Design Talent for ‘outstanding achievement in
design, craftsmanship, business and culture’
