Specialties
There is an emphasis on charcuterie, properly made sauces and simple yet perfectly made puddings. We want people to tuck into our food avoiding pomp and ceremony, and to this end sharing dishes always feature, perhaps a venison pie or whole roast pheasant in the winter, and whole baked fish or grilled veal chop in the summer.
History
Established in 2007.
Husband and wife, James and Emma first met David back in 2001 whilst working at La Trompette in Chiswick. It was their ambition to open a restaurant and with experience at The Fat Duck, Putney Bridge and the Mandarin Oriental, they were well equipped. They wanted a restaurant that focused on good, honest cooking, showcasing traditional British ingredients and mastering classic, seasonal dishes. The opportunity arose when James’ father Roger offered to help make that possible and in 2005 they began looking for a possible site. Eventually securing a restaurant site at London Bridge there followed a year of refurbishment and re-design and the four of them opened ‘MAGDALEN’ in January 2007 to much critical acclaim.
