For a place that specialises in filled pasta, the ravioli served at Mangio is rather underwhelming. Supposedly backed by a highly regarded Italian chef/writer the standard of the pasta & accompanying sauces were mediocre in both taste & preparation. On the day of my visit there was a choice of 2 filled pastas and a special of macaroni cheese. I opted for the £5.80 pasta box of spinach & ricotta ravioli with ‘season’ sauce of sausage and mushrooms. The ravioli was undercooked with insufficient sauce but covered with shavings of Parmesan. There is an option of a ‘meal deal’ for £7.50 which includes bread, a small salad containing potatoes, although better value this is not a popular option for the health conscious with the overload of carbohydrates! At this particular lunchtime, Mangio was unusually busy due to a half price promotion, otherwise it seems to be quite empty most days. So the place would be a good option if you like a carbohydrate heavy lunch or want somewhere to avoid lunchtime queues in the City. However if you are looking for a tasty healthy lunch you would be better off going elsewhere.
