Maoz

Here is a poem.
Maoz. I would eat here everyday.

Hey, look, I didn’t say the poem would be good. But this place makes me want to write poetry because I love it so much.
It’s so simple. You come in and order falafel to go, either in a wrap or a box. And then, you get to fill it up with whatever you like, as much as you can fit in. And not just lettuce and tomatoes and cucumbers and stuff like that, although they have it and it is good. But then they have peppers and fried cauliflower and couscous and chili sauce and oh my god.
It’s only about £7 and I always make it into a meal and a half if not two meals. And I love it so much that it makes me want to write poetry. Every. Damn. Day.

I just did an eurotrip with my best friend and we literally went to Maoz in every country we possibly could. The falafels taste amazing and it’s very quick and cheap!
I would 100% recommend it

Yippee! i had no idea that there was a Maoz here in London. My first brush with this was in Amsterdam when I had the midnight munchies there. :) Its definitely a healthy snack, but so delicious that you don’t even realise that its healthy!
You can opt to order the falafels in a pita (£4.40 takeaway, £5.40 eat in), or in a salad box (£5 takeaway, £6 eat in). I ordered the salad box, which came with 5 little 1″ puck-​sized falafels. Now the falafels are delicious! Freshly fried, crispy on the outside, with (I’m guessing) couscous and parsley in the mix. so its not dry at all, very moist! Once you get your box with 5 falafels in there and a bit of lettuce to start, you have a self service salad bar where you can pack your box with as much as you want! There were marinated tomatoes and red onion, dill marinated cucumbers, soft roasted carrots, couscous salad, pickled jalapeño peppers, deep fried cauliflower (a bit greasy, but LOVED this), red cabbage salad, coleslaw, chilled raw mushroom salad. Also, there were other things you can add on for 50p, such as feta cheese, grilled aubergine, hummus, avocado, guacamole. BTW, you also get a 3″ round of pita as well.
When you’re done choosing your salads, you also get an assortment of 6 sauces (garlic sauce, yogurt dressing, etc), along with fresh parsley sauces and this «green sauce», as they call it (looks like chimichurri), but its quite spicy! The salads are great on their own, but the sauces really jazz it up.
Overall, it was an excellent late lunch for me. I knew that I was getting a surf n turf dinner cooked for me in a few hours, and I hadn’t eaten lunch yet but I knew I had to try Maoz since I was in the area. Ate it at 5pm, and now that its 9:30, I’m still stuffed… trying to pretend I’m not hungry so I can still get my full dinner!
If you’ve been to Pilpel before, they have a very similar idea, and they serve excellent falafels. You get 6 in a salad box, and they are slightly bigger than Maoz — tastewise, I think they are very very similar, though I think I prefer Pilpel if i HAD to choose, based on falafels alone. BUT — for overall value and taste and selection of the salads /​sauces combined, I’d say Maoz is a CLEAR winner, because their salads are tasty and marinated well, AND they provide sauces (which Pilpel doesn’t have). A perfect healthy meal!

This chain initially caught my eye in NY but never had a chance to try it. I was sorta stumbling on my way to the tube station after a few drinks and couldn’t decide what to eat — and whoa and behold… falafels. I ordered the falafel with hummous and aubergines — with all of the salad you want plus the chips and a drink. Definitely a better and healthier choice compared to the usual street hot dog or kebab. I didn’t enjoy the chips very much… I’d recommend saving your calories for something else.
