Had the bacon, sausage and egg Bap. Best breakfast sandwich ever. No need for cheese, the pork sausage is meaty and salty(not spicy), the bacon is not US style, but more of a slice of grilled spiral cut ham, and the egg is cooked in glorious grease on the grill. The bread is a light fluffy white roll that soaks up the flavor(not a potato roll). 5 £. Coffee is instant, so u might want to bring that in. SOGOOD!

Great place for a filling, British breakfast! It’s a little pop-up cafè in Borough Market that only has a handful of tables outside and is run by one lady behind the counter. There seemed to be an endless combinations of different breakfast plates with a lot of British classics. Overall, the service was quick and friendly, the prices were pretty cheap, and the food was delicious and filling. I’d definitely recommend this place for breakfast!

We popped in for a quick breakfast during our first run at Borough Market. The menu seems fairly straight-forward, but as an American, I was left scratching my head. What, exactly, is a «bubble»? We have many things that’d go along with that phrase where I’m from, but none of them seemed like they’d be a match for a breakfast cart. Not knowing, and too timid to ask, we just ordered the breakfast plate that most appealed to us — egg, black pudding and bacon. Sign me up! The food came out quickly, though we had to kind of hover in order to hear the friendly lady working the register call it out. I did appreciate the portion size — especially of the black pudding, which is something we can only find in the smallest of quantities back home — though I thought that something on the plate — either the bacon or the egg — was super salty. Still, it was a good, quick breakfast, and gave us the energy we needed to sustain through lunch. The dining area can get a bit cramped, especially if you have large groups of people trying to squeeze in to a table in the«courtyard»(there were several there, when we were, and a couple more trying to get in as we were trying to get out). The service, as I said, was friendly, and I can’t ever fault any food place for getting my food to me piping hot and with a quickness.

Who would have thought that a traditional greasy spoon would become a rarity in London?! So happy to be taken to Maria’s for a sit down lunch — sometimes a plate of bacon and egg with a side of bubble’n’squeak just beats the poshest selection of organic produce. As always, the idea of a fry up beats reality, but I still loved every moment and every bite of it.

No matter how much of a traveler you think you are, my buddy John has you beat. He has covered all 50 states with his family, getting his elementary school age youngest into every one. Plus, most of Europe. When he said, eat at the Maria’s in the Bourough Market, I put it on my list. In a sea of great, artisan made cheeses, breads and meat, most of which you can try, is Maria’s. After having 100 nibbles of food, I was ready to eat. There are lots of other sandwiches and full-meal-eats available, but Maria’s is unique in that it has a tables to sit down. John had said the breakfast was great – but we were there at lunch. They seem to serve breakfast all day, but I’d already had a British breakfast, with bubble and beans. So, I tried the pork loin steak with brandy chutney. The sandwich was on this big, hand made roll. The roll itself was great. Very soft and tasty. The pork was a thin strip if meat, not unlike Canadian bacon but tasting like pork loin. The chutney made the whole thing. The pork had been grilled. It’s hard to commit to an entire meal in among so many great places to sample and get interesting food. Other stalls, without seating, had meat pies and mash, salt beef, venison burgers and so much more. But if you want breakfast or to sit and linger with your food, Maria’s is a solid choice.

Maria’s Market Café is in the heart of Borough Market. Head here when everything else feels a little overwhelming. You will find a tasty steak bap, a good mug of tea and a warm smile. Exactly what you need for a market lunch.

Cheap and yummy Thai café that also does good simple British café food too! The décor is nothing to look at but the atmosphere is fine and a good place for people watching.

Located inside Borough Market, Maria’s Market Café serves up typical English-style breakfast fare and was recommended to us by a couple of locals. The line was consistently long on a Saturday morning, but I didn’t mind the wait because it bought us some time to translate the English food slang. So you don’t have to feel as dumb as I did, this should get you started: Bap = sandwich Bubble = potato & cabbage hash Rocket = arugula The Liver, Bacon, Onion, Rocket with Mustard Mayo Bap and a side of Black Pudding was definitely big enough to share. Salty, savory, proteiny, carby, greasy, perfectly fried-up– it was everything I needed after a night of too many pubs. My only regret is that afterwards I was too full to completely indulge in all the other delicious offerings at Borough Market. Make this your last stop at the market!

Like others have said: delicious, greasy, grande breakfast sandwiches at a price below that of the posh stands in the market offering much smaller sandwiches — hardly served with all of the love that Maria dishes out at her classic breakfast café.

Spotted this unassuming little place in a tight corner of Borough Market the other week. Among the over-priced stalls that surround it, Maria’s Caff is bang on. Good food*, good price and Maria herself is a bit of a character! I had the cheese + bubble and squeak bap; who knew it made such a tasty little bite?! Will be back if I’m in the area again. *as previously mentioned, nothing fancy but tasty all the same :)

Can not believe there was nothing on Qype on Maria’s Caf. Maria Moruzzi’s parents opened Borough Café on Park Street in 1961. Maria began working there as a seven-year-old and has worked there ever since. I go for the bubble and squeak, which I can never make as good as hers. Do not expect anything fancy, this is a great greasy spoon with heritage.

Monty Python once said«…there’s egg and bacon; egg, sausage and bacon; egg and spam; egg, bacon and spam; egg, bacon, sausage and spam; spam, bacon, sausage and spam; spam, egg, spam, spam, bacon and spam; spam, sausage, spam, spam, bacon, spam, tomato and spam.» Maria’s Market Café has a similar approach to menu planning. No spam, but a LOT of bacon, bubble and black pudding, and complex variations thereof. If you are a salad enthusiast, or a veggie, look away now. Maria’s is buried underneath the arches in Borough Market, and it’s the real deal. Food is served piping hot, having been created by the eponymous Maria in seconds. Good portions, no-nonsense service, and it’s all cheap as chips. Bacon, egg, black pudding and bubble, plus a can of coke? £4.80 — and absolutely delicious. You don’t want to eat this stuff every day, but from time to time — particular if one is in recovery mode — this is just the ticket…

Yep, Tom E said it perfectly. The bubble and cheese roll is a top(woohooooo, CHEEEAP) comfort food in the midst of this confusing posh market, which though interesting, smells too overwhelmingly of cheese and sells insanely expensive small pies which I find very disconcerting in their tiny, dense(often filled with deer) expensiveness.

World Food vs Cockney Food… You can keep your chorizo in ciabatta, Monmouth coffees and fancy pants olives. Where’s the real food in Borough Market? I’m talking food to feed the famished, not food to end up at the end of a preposterous Nikon lens of a foodie tourist. The answer is Maria’s For half the price of a free-range ostrich and rocket poshwich you can get a superbly satisfying Bacon, Cheese and Bubble in a Bap with Brown Sauce that will make your belly sing. Proper London food, served with an ‘alrite my darlin’ and eaten on paper gingham tablecloths. London wins.

As the name suggests, this café is(more or less) an open air affair smack in the middle of Borough Market. Borough Market it’s self is covered, so you won’t be rained on — but it can be windy, so wrap up if it’s cold. This is honest British Breakfast grub, slightly dripping in fat and all the better for it. Opening times seem to be a bit erratic, especially on a Monday morning — but then who can blame them? I’ve only ever had the bacon roll, at a very reasonable £1.50 on my way into work, so can’t talk to the full breakfast, but the ever present pan of bubble and squeak on the hob always looks great and everything’s freshly cooked. One day, I fully intend to make time for a full breakfast here. One day my friends.
