Market Café is an interesting place. It’s not quite a pub, but it’s definitely not just a café for breakfast and brunch. They have a solid burger on the menu — like a fancy Big Mac — and some decent beers, but service is a bit spotty. It was a slow night when I was there, and while one waitress was very attentive, the other practically went out of her way to avoid offering any help or service. Clearly it’s an establishment of contradictions. I’d visit again if someone else wants to go, especially since I haven’t had their brunch, but there are better options on Broadway Market for beers and late-night meals.

Market Café naturally became our go to spot after work on weekdays. Vibe is pretty chilled, and if you can’t find a spot on the terrace, worry not, the inside is pretty cool too with those huge windows! Crate Cider on tap makes me happy, as well as those huge olives. Insider tip — On Tuesday’s, Market Café offers a 2 cheeseburgers for the price of 1 ***Happy Dance*** although I’ve not yet tested it. All in all, a cool spot to sit down, have a drink or a bite on weekdays & weekends… pretty large spectrum I know, but I guess it’s just nice to have one of those places where you can just go at anytime of the day and knowing what you’ll find.

I’m afraid I must follow suit with The Market Café and give it a 3 star review. The Market Café is definitely A-OK! We had an enjoyable time but it wasn’t anything extraordinary and I doubt I would return in a hurry. Sadly the service was very slow, especially for a Monday afternoon. We had to ask for menus, ask to order and ask for the bill twice. I opted for the avocado on toast with poached egg and bacon. I must say that the avocado was delicious — really well flavoured with like and tomato, the bacon was extra crispy and salty which I really enjoyed also and the eggs cooked well. I also ordered a side of chips — they were good! Salted really well with a hint of pepper. Sadly it wasn’t my meal that was the problem. Alex’s Market Café fry up was sadly a let down — eggs cooked badly and everything thrown together and over cooked! Such a shame. The waitress was friendly but as I said — just generally a-ok!

It was a bank holiday, and, unbelievably, the sun was shining. So naturally we, and the whole world, wanted to sit outside and bathe in the tepid rays of English sunshine. Needless the say, we didn’t manage to find seats outside. However, MC was a decent compromise, offering sun-dappled tables inside. We ordered drinks and ice-cream. Service was quite slow, but then it was super busy. My ice creams/sorbets were lovely — rich sweet chocolate, green apple and mandarin — thumbs up. My pals’ affogatos were fine, but the server had already poured expresso over the ice-cream so it appeared like a soup. I thought the fun came from pouring it over yourself? Prices weren’t especially cheap — tenner each — but I guess that’s average for Broadway Market. I’m sure there are better options, but also worse options. Not bad at all.

I’ve only had good experiences there so far. Very baby friendly(not easy to find nice places to go with a baby specially ones that have space for the buggy) and nice food. The vegetarian quarter pounder is soooo good!

Don’t go here if you only want to grab a drink! Went there earlier today with a friend hoping to have a cup of coffee. Upon arrival we were told we would shortly be seated but never were asked if were planning on having food there. We sat down and when we both ordered coffee we were told that this was not possible and that we would either have to order food or leave, as the area for drinks only was fully taken. We weren’t even offered to wait at the bar until another table would open up. it’s a shame because this place looks very nice and is located conveniently for me but the bad service and the unfriendly staff put me off.

The only thing worse than the food is the service. Brought several friends to Market Café after they had a long transatlantic flight. The brunch was about as boring as you can find on Broadway market. Nonetheless, it was the incredibly inattentive, and at times, rude service that put it over the edge.

Great place any time of the day. Particularly fond of their espresso martini’s. Had breakfast here a few times but wasn’t overly impressed with the eggs royale… muffin too dry and stodgy and the hollandaise was tasteless.

1. market café fry up £9.75 is the full english breakfast includes eggs(the way you like it), toast, bacon, baked beans, black pudding, mushroom and sausage. 2. handcut pasta and meatballs £11.50 3. toulouse sausage with mash and onion gravy £11.50 — the sausage is delicious, close my eyes and there I am on the banks of the canal du midi, open them, and it’s the Regents canal again :-). It is served with some creamy mash and a tasty gravy. A decent plateful but I did want a dessert afterwards. 4. salmon fish cake with pomodoro sauce(the main dish of the day for the worker’s lunch deal) £9.95 — the fish cakes are giant sized. With three of them it makes a decent plate. Unfortunately, there was not enough of the pomodoro sauce. There is quite a lot of salmon meat in those fish cakes. 5. sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice-cream £5.00 — the toffee sauce was a little too sweet for me(but toffee is supposed to be sweet!) and the pudding is nice and moist. Hot cake with cold ice-cream, exceedingly yum! IF, if only the cake portion was slightly bigger to mop up all that leftover toffee sauce. 6. eggs florentine £8.00 — a huge amount of butter in that hollandaise sauce topped over overcooked poached eggs, spinach and muffins. Tummy upset after this unfortunately. Otherwise, not a bad brunch dish. 7. ratatouille with poached eggs £6.50 — the poached egg were overcooked too but the ratatoullie, oily in its nature, was delicious

We were on a brunch hunt yesterday, and with people always pouring out of the cafes along broadway market, yesterday was going to be the day I tried one. Market Café is located at the beginning of the broadway markets. On offer was all day brunch which is great, as you have the choice of sweet or savoury. Now this is where maybe i mis-read the menu. When you are hungry for brunch, you are looking for that substantial, delicious dish that will keep you full to the afternoon. However on this occasion this wasn’t the case. I ordered the Salmon Gravlax, with heirloom beetroots and rye. For £12 I was sorely disappointed. Literally all that was served was salmon with dill, a weird rye crumb down the middle and some beetroots. To be honest — this was not a salad and was no open sandwich which when saying rye — I assumed bread to be served. Maybe I should have asked to clarify? Although I felt this was not a complete dish, literally salmon and beetroots. Would you be happy if that was served to you? With regards to the eggs royale, my dining partner says the eggs were cooked perfectly however the hollandaise just lacked seasoning. We cant complain about the juices. They were refreshing and offered a lot of flavour. The café itself has a nice atmosphere, I just think it would be great to see the salmon dish to be more substantial — whether served with bread or actual green leaves as a salad. My other suggestion is, maybe update your menu description to be more clear for future diners, if you are going for the more minimalistic dishes. This café has potential, just a few changes would really make it awesome.

Thank you Market Café! We needed a sit down and a drink and you made us welcome… even though we only wanted a drink. Mind you, the menu looked fab and we wished we were hungry… next time…

This is a wonderful land surprisingly spacious café in the Broadway Market. It’s a ‘hipster’ establishment but in the best way possible; the staff and customers are young and cool and the menu is traditional and yet contemporary at the same time. I enjoyed my meal more than just about any other I’ve ever had in London. Thoroughly recommended.

Many a Saturday afternoon has been spent in this gem on the corner of Broadway Market. Things I like: they do Prosecco on tap, they mix an excellent cocktail, they serve Schiehallion lager, no matter how busy it is you always manage to find a seat. Yes the staff are all total hipsters… but come on, it’s Broadway Market! Customer service is usually pretty strong(something I often find lacking in other ‘hipster’ hangouts) and on more than one occasion we’ve been offered left over croissants on a Saturday afternoon. I’ve never had a full meal here but their bar snacks like chips, bread and butter and olives are all pretty strong. All in all, a good local which gets some really lovely afternoon sun too. Final tip: they use Balance Me soap in the loos– it smells divine!

If you were to Google ‘Hipster’ it would drop a pin right in the centre of the Lower East side and put a finger on the concierge of The Jane’s booking page or the once eponymous Egg(now relocated to 109 North 3rd st, Williamsburg, FYI). Here with Lady Hipster luck pointing her finger on London, you’d get nowhere more edgy than dining with the lead singer of The Knife, than hanging out on the edge of Broadway market. Dining out, whilst dining out on dining out anecdotes, I was dining out with a trio; a tripod, a cluster of hipsters if you will? A bunch of Dickheads with razor sharp bone structures in need of a good meal. In London’s answer to the Dark Side, sorry East Side. No Gronis, I groaned. Oh well it was a Tuesday, why not? Never saying no to a Negroni, we accelerated our appetites with some well stirred aperitifs. Then inhaled Bone marrow Risotto, specifically ordered as a main and my Dickhead dates, all ordered the meatball Tagliatelle. The bone marrow dish was indeed intense and at the same time deliciously delicate, salty right to the oily tasty core, yet pretending you eat like a bird and not wanting to sound like a greedy oxen, amongst skinny male company is lame. I politely pressed my napkin to the side of my nude lips after ensuring I had licked the corners of my mouth as to not waste a spec of the tasty meat splashes. Small Portion + big plate= 90’s nouveau cuisine, not acceptable in an ironic way in my books. Small Portion + small plate=modern day miserly meal giving, resulting in Hanger(angry when hungry) which is at it’s worst knowing you’re about to shell out for a meal and still feel famished after. Their Tag wasn’t our bag. The tangled nest of noodles spread across the dish showed spaces of plate where there should have been pools of puttanesca. It was like a minimalist pasta-like Mondrian and that’s being generous. Now I know Dickheads are traditionally thin, beautiful/it’s cool to smoke instead of eat types, but I remind you they need sustenance. They don’t just survive on sherbet dib dab between trips home for Mother’s Lunch. Most I know are constant freeloaders, I mean free lancers with no money having spent most of it all on art or experience. It is not cool to think these people don’t need proper food. So this is my campaign to the Market Café to say that FOUR(mini) meatballs strangely balancing on the rim of a plate is unacceptable.

I have visited the Market Café twice in the past few weeks with my small baby. The ambience is nice and the staff friendly. Service was good and efficient. The food was delicious, I had the ‘workers lunch’ one time which was a main, drink and coffee for a tenner-had a fishcake which was yummy. The second time I had french toast with bacon and maple syrup which was delicious however a small portion. Only real criticism is that it is a tad pricey and also the coffee is served quite cold– lukewarm. Would recommend this place to others, is nice and quiet during the week, outside seats and lots of buggy space! It gets v busy on a weekend! 3 stars instead of 4 as pricey and cold coffee!

The food was delicious although the service left a lot to be desired. Tip to the waiter: when you’re asked for recommendations, don’t muffle up a snarky response and don’t try to backtrack in a patronising tone with your hand on my shoulder.

Two words: truffle rarebit. Yes. Two other words: burrata avocado. No. We squeezed into Market Café to escape the blistering cold today and managed to grab a seat upstairs. While the burger looked small and appealing, we went for two of the breakfast items. The truffle rarebit was rich, truffley and to die for. The burrata and avocado on toast was vile, the avocado was actually store bought guacamole and a terrible accompaniment. Bleagh. I like this place though, it’s big, they have a great weekend cocktail menu and lots of choice of foods.

It’s Hipster-cental. The former premises of La Vie en Rose has been updated(or retro-dated) into a restaurant/bar/café and is popular with all the locals(well, the middle class/hipster locals — it’s certainly NOT a caff). I haven’t had dinner here yet, prices looked a bit steep if you ask me, but I’m sure I will at some point. The staff all have odd haircuts and they seem to have raided every retro-antique-shop from here to West London. It’s a place for all occasions: dinner, brunch, cakes, lunch, beer, coffee and more.

Stumbled on this new opening by chance, and had a delicious glass of Sicilian white, whilst watching the sun go down over the canal. The place still smelt of paint but there was a good crowd in situ, many seemed to know the affable owner. He managed with grace and humour, to deal with a number of mild calamities, expected with a new opening, fire alarms etc. Their menu was filled with enticing choices and I chose a lip smacking good oxtail soup, with a glass of Chianti, well recommended by the bar staff. Service was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, which meant I stayed much longer than intended. The Scottish lager had so much flavour, unusual and brilliant. Plus a rarely found, good stout, will have me returning very soon.
