Master & Servant

Another new kid on the Hoxton Square scene!
A breath of fresh air, indeed. Master & Servant popped up quickly, and none too soon. It’s time to get spring sprung and new food into the bellies of East Londoners, eh? It joins Monikers in freshening up this side of the square…
My date and I popped in on a recent Saturday around 9ish. M&S was comfortably full, we were seated immediately and from that very moment the service was impeccable, so much so that I’ve rounded up from 3 to 4 stars. The service really is a standout. Everyone felt on point, and eager to show the passion of the restaurant.
That’s why, I’ll be back. The first go ’round the food was pretty good. I didn’t leave «bowled over» but was happy with our selections. A few improvements here and there would’ve really sealed it for me. Our Jacob Lamb shanks were a bit cold, and the mash beneath them also lacking the right temperature. The greens with a dollop of sauce were very heavy on the sauce, drowning the middle section. A shame, the greens were so good I wanted to eat all of them, but they’d been pillaged by the sauce.
The cocktails are a dream (I believe made downstairs at Happiness Forgets, if I am not mistaken? If not, they taste just as good!) I opted for the Aviation & Tonic, lovely. We then headed for wine, enjoying a brilliant bottle of well-​priced (under 30) Bordeaux which escorted us through dinner, wrapping us both in warmth and fuzzy feelings… ah, wine. Really, could we live without it?
For dessert we tried the peanut butter ice cream. With just one scoop it was not so indulgent, but tickled the tastebuds and complemented the cappuccino perfectly. A nice way to end the meal.
All in, with 2 cocktails, a bottle of wine, 2 mains, 2 starters… under 100 quid. Not a bad night out if I do say so myself.
They are still getting their legs, but once they do… watch out, I think this place is going to be fantastic and I’ll surely be back.
