I have the occasional craving for indulging the fatty inside by devouring a greasy chip bun. I am particular about my fried potato and like my chips double dipped, soft, well vinegar’d and crammed within a soft buttered bun. The Mermaids Fish Bar & Café are the complete fast food outlet. You will find traditional fish and chips, kebabs, burgers and pizza. What I wanted though was a chip bun, or if you are in Preston, a chip barmcake, or as Londoners call it a chip roll. The moment the attendant said let me throw you in some fresh chips I should have known. Two things can go wrong with fresh chips and true to form it happened. The chips weren’t fully cooked and they were too hot to eat. So not only did I have to wait five minutes before I could enjoy my unhealthy treat, when I managed to withstand the burning sensation in my mouth I didn’t enjoy them anyway. The real kicker is the annoying chewy buns, sorry, ROLLS London chip shops use. What is wrong with soft buns people? To hammer the final nail into the coffin was the ludicrously priced £1.70 I had to pay for a dissatisfying snack that is ultimately terrible for my health.
