My favorite cocktail spot near Portobello Road. Amazing drinks and service. The bar selection is great, and they sure know how to present a drink. The aged Negroni is wonderful.

Very good cocktail option in west end. Cocktails are quite well crafted — food menu is very limited but definitely worth a try for a nice cocktail session.

This is one of my favorite cocktail spots on the west side, if not all of London. It has a great old speakeasy vibe without being too gimicky. Try the Vesper Martini and the Salty Dog cocktails.

Really good burgers, amazing burgers really! They also serve nice cocktails but the place is so dark that you might walk out with severe depression. Great place for those who wish to «hide».

Great little place that serves wonderful tapas. Highly recommend the tuna and duck tapas.

Very cozy cocktail bar nuzzled between two top notch Italian restaurants. You could make a night of it on this street. Montgomery is a small space, and nearly always crowded on a Thursday/Friday/weekend evening(although it is possible reserve a place beforehand!). They have a menu of tasty nibbles(I can recommend the spring rolls & Surf and Turf), along with a blast-from-the-past cocktail menu of American classics. Low lighting, dark wood furniture, and 1950s/60s memorabilia give Montgomery place a very«hyggelig» feel! Definitely coming back here more often.

This place makes you feel like you walked into a bar in NYC. The cocktails and the food are American inspired. A very descriptive cocktail menu awaits you as well. The portions are tapas style and are tasty little morsels. The favorite for us was the surf and turf. The meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly, medium rare of course! The shrimps were succulent and if they gave me a bucket of them instead of 3 small pieces I would have eaten all of it!

Best cocktails in London. Only bring people whom you wish to impress here. That or for good celebrations. I only invite people to Montgomery Place to celebrate, for a special date or for professional networking dates — that’s how highly I think of this place.

Having read about this cocktail bar in the local press, I actually never figured out exactly where it was and I must have walked passed it without realising a dozen times. At long last, I discovered Montgomery Place when a friend suggested a nightcap here on the way home from a gig the other week. As it was a mid-week night we weren’t surprised to find the bar nearly empty it is quite a small narrow place with a wider area in the back. We enjoyed our cocktails at the impressive bar and felt quite decadent until a brawl broke out between the bar staff and a barfley who had outstayed her welcome. Not quite as stylish an end to the evening as we had anticipated can only hope this is not a regular occurrence.

Great(albeit small) wine bar/tapas restaurant in Notting Hill. Was exactly what we were looking for. Got three small plates and a bottle of wine. The service was attentive, but not overbearing and all the food was excellent. Would definitely make this my go-to restaurant if I lived in the city.

Excellent cocktail menu and cute environment. In the summer, I’ve seen it packed and people spilling out onto the streets. The staff was attentive and we had a large and comfortable table for our group. My drink was an interesting and less-sweet take on a mojito, using cranberries for flavour but not overpowering with the normal fistfuls of sugar that are added to mojitos. If you’d like a classy place to meet friends for creative cocktails, this is a good spot. Gluten-free notes: Cocktails are mostly gluten-free. :-)

Montgomery Place does a fair approximation of being my London version of Cedar [ in Washington, DC. Specifically, Montgomery Place is surrounded by other eye-catching dining establishments, offers an intimate dimly-lit bar setting, quality libations, and a pretty diverse selection of attempted-American small plates. Admittedly, I was a bit misled, because when I saw ‘Tapas Bars’ as a category, I(naturally) assumed that they would serve… tapas. You know. The kind with gambas al ajillo and patatas bravas. Not so. A brief perusal of the menu posted outside revealed an eclectic variety of creative dishes from onion rings to buffalo wings to spring rolls. Of the various items we sampled, I was partial to the Montgomery Dog — purportedly a house take on NYC hotdogs. Having consumed more Crif Dogs than I should probably admit to(thanks, PDT…), these were completely unalike. If anything, I would consider them akin to Lit’l Smokies, mini chorizo, or some kind of German wurst. Regardless, they were savoury, juicy, and even better dipped in the drizzle of mustard on the serving plate. Pass on the blackened asparagus if you’re actually –fond– of asparagus. Our stalks were quite flavourless, coated in a starchy sauce, and had a sweet/spicy kick that didn’t inspire. You can’t go wrong with the surf and turf if you’re into meat and shrimp, though. Where Montgomery Place truly shines is in their cocktail program. The evening we went, there was only one bartender on duty, so things were running a bit behind, which timed out just fine, considering food was also slow to arrive(along with our water, which we had to ask for again). Even so, the artistry and practised efficiency of the man behind the counter shone through in his actions and in my enjoyable Blood and Sand. While Montgomery Place may not excel in its bar bites quite like Cedar does, they can hold their own in the booze department. I didn’t have an opportunity to go off-menu on this trip, but I’d be curious to see how creative their bartenders are willing to get. Definitely worth a visit if you’re around Portobello Road.

Fantastic bar with a nice ambiance albeit a bit small and cramped. The cocktail list is divine with tons of great cocktails to choose from however there are way too many words to describe each and reading the drinks list felt like doing a PhD in booze! Nice chill lounge music and good servers in the pleasant Notting Hill neighbourhood make this a must visit if in the hood and in need to quench your thirst. I was here with a few girlfriends but I would not suggest it for a first date unless you fancy screaming over the loud buzz of the place!!!

I went his for my friends birthday celebration expecting swanky cocktails and some nice nibbles in good company. The place delivered on the swanky cocktail side which came to a very steep price! Unfortunately the service was the worst I have ever experienced in a cocktail bar! We had to walk up to the bar everytime we wanted the waitress to come to the table and after every visit she gave us a new bill including a hefty service charge instead of just simply making the whole party pay once we are done. We were constantly fiddling with money and credit cards which was not very relaxing. I ordered a duck with Jasmin rice from the tapas menu which took a long time to arrive and once I had eaten some of the rice and moved to tasting the duck was stone cold! I sent it back saying I expected better after such a wait and they deducted it from the bill. We ordered another round of yummy cocktails instead and while I was outside having a smoke with one of the other guest the waitress had taken out half drunken mojito cocktails away! I complained again and the waitress went to investigate. Back came the manager who insisted that no one had taken the cocktails although my friend had seen the waitress at the table. The manager was extremely rude and accused me of lying about the cocktails on the basis that«I have already complained once about the food». Apparently it is out of the question to complain twice in this place! Hehe. In the end she agreed to bring us one new cocktail and came with it slamming it on the table… I suppose she expected me and my friend to share the darn thing! I asked her if I could speak to her manager but apparently she was the only manager there and as a result I told her that perhaps she should adjust the ways she speaks to her customers and as a response she said I was the rude one to her staff! In here the customer certainly is not always right! I left feeling very pissed off that I spent all that money on the drinks and got treated like dirt! I will not go back anytime soon.

Montgomery Place for all the world feels like a New York speakeasy. It is dark, intimate and sexy, with a cocktail list that would delight any cocktail aficionado. The bartenders know there stuff, and I would rank this bar as one of London’s premium houses for getting a superbly balanced drink. I have so far heaped praise and it is deserved, but due to the high quality, there is a higher end price, with the average cocktail costing around £8.50. I would certainly recommend MP for a drink with refined company, a date, but not for a group of up for it party peeps. One the bar is small and two, there is a lack of overt party vibe. Still Montgomery Place is a very good bar.

If only I could find a wine bar like this in every city I visit. Very cosmopolitan yet relaxed feel(tough to achieve.) Great staff on both visits and the bartenders were super accommadating, even researching up a new drink I mentioned. The food is excellent with a reasonable array of choices. A bit surprised they didn’t have dessert, but that is a small criticism.

Montgomery is my local and that’s the main reason we don’t want to move. It is hands-down thee NYC cocktail lounge replica, and the drinks may even be better than some of my favorite spots in the city across the pond. However, now that Mario is gone it might not be the ever be the same, and thus I won’t feel so bad about switching abodes. Montgomery is where it’s at.

This is as close to a New York bar as one can get in the Bayswater/Notting Hill/Holland Park area. The vibe is sophiscated, dark, modern… and their cocktails are excellent. Half the fun is perusing the drinks menu. I love their martinis second only to Dukes Bar(you just can’t beat tableside service) and if it’s a nice evening, you can enjoy your drink at a table outside. They also have hefty snacks(ok, tapas) available which I’ve yet to try as this is the perfect place to hit for a drink before dinner. I only wish the bar was more NYC in their hours — they close at midnight during the week(and 1am on Saturdays).
