Sunday morning and I woke up in pain. Staggered to the mirror and was greeted by a right eye that was a mess of red… I’d had problems earlier in the week, the right side was looking a bit red and sore but drops didn’t seem to help that much. Optician couldn’t find signs of infection or scratches and recommended that I go if it got worse or not better. This was NOT better… redness had spread to the other side and it hurt to blink.
Caught the first tube and was at Moorfields just after 7:30. The only one at A&E (it’s specialised so don’t go here if you don’t have anything wrong with your eye, they can’t help with a broken leg for example).
Registered quickly (couldn’t find my GP initially but found it after a little searching) and sat down to wait, which wasn’t long. The nurse made the initial assessment and then left me to wait for the Optometrist. He confirmed the Optician’s findings from Friday and then recommended we look at the back of the eye, so back to the waiting room which had started to fill up. The second nurse took some further readings (including sticking something into the eye!) and gave me my drops but my eyes didn’t dilate properly by the time I saw the second optometrist who had to give me more drops. The final optometrist saw that nothing was wrong and explained roughly what could have happened. A couple of prescriptions were given along with instructions and I was out the door roughly 2 hours after I went in.
The staff were clear and concise in explaining what they were doing, and weren’t cold at all. I was never waiting for long extended periods of time (eye drops would take roughly 20 – 30 minutes to kick in) and the A&E was constantly seeing patients. This was a very good experience for me.

Last December right before the holidays, I was glassed in the left eye at Beach Blanket Babylon in Shoreditch. When the ambulance they called didn’t show up after almost an hour, we took a cab to Moorfields. It took two minutes.
I had two major operations to correct my injury and met with many doctors, nurses and other staff in the process. The most caring and considerate people I’ve ever met. The took such good care of me and saw me regularly to make sure I was healing correctly.
I was mostly under the incredible care of Clinic 4, where I was very lucky to see the same doctors and staff throughout my recovery. When I had to see them urgently, I usually got an appointment very soon. I loved bringing cookies and chocolates because I really appreciated everything they’ve done for me.
I am forever indebted to your help, I would have lost my eye if it hadn’t been for your time and kindness. Thank you.

Really, really hurt. 3 days before Christmas, not good!
The A&E service is great — proper eye doctors (opthamologists?sp) providing a great service — just wished they let me take home the pain relieving eye drops I was given there. It’s gonna take 2 months to fix up properly, and using computers definitely not great so affecting my Unilocaling!

on coming here they were rather quick unless its not major then u have a wait. Sometimes they can be helpful and sometimes not, the staff are friendly but rush around with treatments. there waiting time for surgery is rather quick if they sent a letter to you which half of the time they dont and u end of missing ur appointment not knowing u had one, they dont answer the phones straight away either but hey what hospital does. Good service but good be better.

I’m not reviewing the hospital but the exterior lighting outside the Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre (RDCEC) is amazing. Best seen on a dark night it really is a wonder to suddenly find yourself in front of this amazing lightshow.
