I had the pleasure of being invited here for a drink last weekend and after hunting through the porsche dealerships and wonderfully elegant houses I found it. At first blush you would wonder why one would wish to come here, the place is small, the bar is expensive, the cocktails are above average but not spectacular. The location is beautiful but a touch far from other evening shenanigans. Yet this is known as one of the more ‘exclusive’ of London’s member’s clubs. This is not really a place that you’d go to just for a drink for a drink’s sake, it is a place to meet those that inspire you. I was very impressed with how the people there were of good range of ages(mostly 30+) friendly, helpful but not trying to impress; quite a novelty in London! It’s also great place to take clients for dinner or host a small conference. Membership is by a vetting process(not by recommendation), the members are from a range of backgrounds, fees are less than most similar member’s clubs and the spouse gets a complimentary membership. Members can then bring up to 5 guests into the club. There is a main bar downstairs, a fine dining room with what seems to be a constant piano player, a conference room upstairs and a new club ‘2 and 8′ which is open until 3am. The club has regular dinners with its members hosting from racing car designers to fashion designers. It all seems to be packed with great service, rotating art from the owners own collection and 14,000 different wines. This is a lovely place and perfect if you’re going to use the things described above. Why does it lose a star? The drinks and restaurant are a little expensive for what they are and the place is a little small. That said, if you want a home from home with wonderful people around you and a club thats open late in Mayfair look no further.

Hmmm, not so sure this place is happening anymore, though I do like it for a last minute drop in cocktail!

I came here with a friend who is a member on the night I arrive in London. It is a private member’s club, so it automatically has that sort of wonderfully superior vibe to it. Most of the crowd were older gentlemen dressed in suits, discussing business after a day at the office. It was everything I was expecting it to be. I had a fabulous beverage, light, and fruity, and unfortunately it’s name is escaping me, but it came decorated with pomegranate seeds. It was delicious, and exactly what the doctor ordered to cure my jet-lag.
