My neighborhood spot for most things organic and eco-friendly, I always find a reason to go in. Wide range of products which can almost be overwhelming great, the bonus is the staff. Initially i stepped in looking for supplements and with so much to choose from Sarah was most helpful at being my guide. Best part about this place is NOPRESSURE to buy; i was educated on which fish oil was best and what suited my needs. Oh, and lets not forget about the café next door, breakfast goodies, snacks and a full menu of coffee and teas — healthiest mocha café ive had yet! Everytime i walk by people are enjoying the outiside seating, couldnt wish for a better spot close to home.

ahhhhh… it smelled like home in there. Every grain that you never knew existed and then some. Organic/Alternative/Gluten free/Hippy Ass grains, spices, dry goods, syrups, milks. Also some household items and cleaning products. They were selling a piece of coconut shell as a type of S.O.S. pad alternative… really? But seriously. If you’re interested in trying to bake some super yummy organic blah blah blah baked good of some kind, this is the place to find all those random substitute ingredients, like arrowroot flour… and mung beans. The café next door is open now but didn’t go in yet.

Mother Earth has now expanded next door — the original location here is in the process of transforming into a café, albeit at a glacial pace. According to the lady at the till, it’s only taken four years to get this boutique speciality food store to the state it’s in now. All that said, Mother Earth is a haven for all things organic and eco-friendly. Much like Unpackaged, they sell many products in bulk — from coconut flakes to porridge to dried apricots. Boxes of gluten-free cereals deck the shelves next to orange blossom water and pink Himalayan salt. If you need an obscure healthy ingredient, you’re likely to find it here. Though the selection is pretty jaw-dropping, the prices(not surprisingly) are as well. My bottle of rose water and jar of organic peanut butter ran over eight quid. Good thing it’s next door to the Newington Green Fruit and Veg market, where I can make up for my splurge-y impulse buys by nicking some quality produce on the cheap. So… anyone know any great cocktail recipes involving rose water???
