Muang Thai

Going to separate out two things here: the food, and the service. The food itself was good. Made fresh, quickly, good taste and a varied menu. So far so good.
Additionally, the décor of this place is nice. Very authentic Thai, it was cool. Came here on a Friday evening and the place was nearly empty which is kind of nice, making it a good option if you’re a local.
Then there’s the service. I wouldn’t normally say this, but our waitress was just acting… Weird. My friend and I both ordered our meals and she asked us if we wanted rice as it’s not included in the mean. We both opted not to order rice. Just before walking away she turned back and asked «are you sure you don’t want to order rice with your meals?» Yes, we were sure!
We got our meals quickly enough, I’m a slow eater though, while my friend is not. The waitress came over very quickly to take his plate while I was still eating and I announced I was still eating. 5 minutes later I was still going, this time the waitress came over and started to clear my plate without me even asking. And again, not like this place was busy. My friend commented that I was still eating and the waitress made a fuss about saying «oh, it’s just that everything else was done already so I assumed you’re finished». My friend asked if they were closing soon as he assumed that’s why, but no, they were open for a few more hours yet.
We then got given the dessert menu. We spent a few minutes deciding on our order, only for the waitress to then come back and tell us she forgot to mention that they were out of everything except two items on the menu. We got the bill and left.
In summary, the food here is good. If you’re prepared to put up with not so fantastic service to eat here, go for it. If you want good service, go somewhere else.

The best thing is that they have vegan options on the menu and if you ask they even change butter from olive oil and the staff is always super nice, always in a rush but they their best :))
I stopped there one night when my mom was in town and we had a lovely meal, my mom had the green thai veggie curry with rise (which now its my favourite dish from there!) and I got the fried noodles veggie as well really good! the spring rolls and tempura are also a great idea for starter !

What a dumb place. Went in for dinner and asked for a table near a plug to charge our phone while eating. They said no charging phones allowed. I said we were there for dinner and they still said no. The place had perhaps 3 other tables with people. We walked out.

The best part of our meal at this restaurant was the atmosphere: low-​ish lights, authentic feel décor and tables not too bunched up together, which made for a better conversation during our meal.
Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment.
Both the starters and the very average red and green curries we ordered were made using the exact same two kinds of vegetables: suedes and potatoes, diced finely. This made me think of the chef using whatever came cheap at the market for every dish on the menu, or using stuff from some kind of vegetable patch at the back of the restaurant somewhere. The sauce was creamy, but not flavoursome.
At prices like £8−15 per dish, I expect to eat better than I would at home, and in this case I didn’t. The waitress was a bit lost, but at least very apologetic.
The bill came to £50 for a starter and a main composed of two vegetables only, only difference the bland sauce, and a beer each.
Not recommended.

9pm on a Friday. Group of 12 people. Seated immediately. Loved.
The food was fine – I was told I was crazy for ordering a very spicy dish by the waitress– and yet I was drinking the sauce. It’s a good little find when you are in a pinch in that neighborhood and want to have a decent meal with friendly service.

Really lovely inside. We sat in the window, on the cushions. We had to take our shoes off and climb up onto the benches. So cute! I had the Thai Green Curry with coconut rice. While it tasted really good, I was comparing it to my favourite, which is Wok Wok in Clapham Junction. Wok Wok’s wins!

I used to be a regular but I will not return. The food is decent and sometime delicious. However lately foods are not fresh. My partner had a prawn dish and the prawn was not stale but apparently gone bad. We didn’t complain but thought maybe wed avoid seafood next time. Then after some months afterward I had a vegetable phad thai and again the vegetable was not at all fresh. Even Tofu tasted sour and both carrot and something else was stale. I complained but they still charge me service. Overall a decent local Thai which is just not consistent.

This place isn’t fabulous, but it’s solid and dependable and I’d return again and again. It’s clean, lovely and serves good hearty noodle bowls at really reasonable prices, so they have my hats off for that. The bowls come with generous side plates of herbs, peppers and lemon. (I loved that they included mint in these … maybe that’s not authentic Thai? but it’s appreciated, at least by this fan of noodle bowls).
Staff is very friendly and they serve REALLY GOOD hot coffee, which was a pleasant surprise.

Ok, this restaurant was spectacular, I mean seriously every dish was delicious. I went yesterday evening for a friends birthday dinner and it didn’t disappoint. We had the front booth area where we had to take off our shoes and put on clean slippers. The sitting arrangement was a play on the authentic Asian style of eating by sitting on the floor. Luckily for some of us like myself who are not so flexible they had a space as you would on a regular table for your feet to dangle. If you were really in the mood for the authentic style the area in the middle would be best suited for you. The service was brilliant always with a smile and willing to help. There was seven of us and we all ordered different dishes so we could try a bit of each. I had beef in black bean sauce and garlic rice. The birthday girl went for the Pad Thai, one of which I thought I really wouldn’t think I would like but as you can guess, it was delicious.
The only let down was the amount of food was quite small portions. The ironic thing was I wasn’t that hungry but after tasting all the good food I built an appetite, so that in the end it wasn’t enough.
Needless to say I will be going again…

Alright, this place is now my favourite Thai restaurant in the ‘hood. Maybe even London…
It’s got a bit of low lit, dark wood ambience that could work well for a date out. Me? I was there on my own, but the food was good enough it was like I’d taken myself out on a date.
I went with the ped pud gra praow, which is roast duck stir fried with basil, onion, garlic, fish sauce and chilli peppers. That and some egg fried rice. The duck was cooked well, not at all overdone. …and I’d swear that it was mainly the oil from the duck that was used to stir fry the dish as the richness from the duck permeated its accoutrements as much as they did it.
I’m normally one to just have a beer chang or some such with my Thai, but something (perhaps the dark woody atmosphere) prompted me to go with wine. I had a large glass of their Chilean Palena Merlot. I’m glad I did as the berry, nuttiness and slight oak complemented the duck well.
I’ll definitely be returning to Muang Thai, I just hope I’ll be able to get myself to try other bits from the menu…

One of the better Thai restaurants I’ve been to. Service is good and the prices won’t break the bank. Plus it’s open pretty late. I wasn’t feeling to adventurous so I got the spring rolls to start and the Pad Thai as a main, and I was pleasantly surprised. However, minus one star for the lack of Thai Iced tea!

Just yum. I had their coconut rice and massaman curry and it was well proportioned and tasteful. I recommend making reservations if going on a weekend and be warned that it’s cramped in there (isn’t it annoying when places try to fit in as many tables as possible which leads to the wait staff bumping in to you all dinner long?) but the food and the price are both great so we can overlook the lack of space. Probably liked the Blue Elephant better than here but with the cost factored in, this would be the place I’ve had the best Thai in London so far!

I agree with the other review in the sense that probably most people don’t know this place. Too bad. Muang thai is pretty good. The food is tasty, although there could be more of it. The portions were really small. We only got 6 prawns in our £8.50 spicy prawn dish. The vegetable chow mein was pretty good, and the cashew beef was also good. We sort of left hungry, though. All in all, I’d suggest Muang Thai to anyone, and I wouldn’t worry about a reservation as I’m willing to bet the place will be almost empty when you go. Good stuff, Muang Thai. Good stuff.

We were quite worried when we entered the place as it was virtually empty. I love Thai food and was really excited but the emptiness kind of dampened the excitement.
The staff were typically kind and friendly, there were dimmed lights and very soft music creating a tranquil mood. It was of a traditional Thai décor, with Thai furniture and designs on the walls and it really worked I thought, though it was a tad cluttered.
For starters I ordered a Thai soup, which was disappointing as I have had it elsewhere and it has been far better. We also had some salad with glass noodles, but was far too spicy for my licking, and even if you avoided the chillies, the seeds were everywhere.
For the mains, I had garlic rice and a king Prawn curry, which was absolutely delicious. I didn’t have high hopes for it after the soup and glass noodles, but it was amazing, not too spicy, nor too mild. I thoroughly enjoyed it and finished it off in no time.
At the end, and during the meal, we all had lemon grass tea, which supposedly is good to eat with as it helps you digest whilst eating, that tasted nice.
Overall, the service was great, more people came towards the end, and it is hit and miss with what you order. It is a decent place and if you like a Prawn Curry, I am sure you will love the one here!

This is another local of mine and I have succumbed once or twice to the fragrant aromas escaping from the shop front after a few drinks in the neighbouring bars. Very friendly staff make you feel very much at home in the low-​level lighting (which may or may not be disguising the somewhat tinselled Thai décor). If you reserve, you can sit at the table on the floor with cushions, although as fun as this seems, I always seem to struggle with positioning myself right and consequently food ends up somewhere on my person rather than in my mouth.
The food is decent and very reasonably priced, there is every well-​known dish that you’d expect from a good restaurant. For £20 each, you can order starters, a main, and a bottle of wine between two. The food was absolutely delicious, the only quibble I might have is it wasn’t quite spicy enough for me, but then I’m a Thai fanatic and I understand if the Chefs err on the safe side with such an unpredictable western audience.

this little place is a gem amongst the pretentious and over priced bars and neighbouring food eateries. Authentically decorated inside, with a popular and reservable little nook where you have to kneel to eat on cushions. the owner is a happy and friendly chap and the waitresses cant do enough for you. they remember my quirky ways I like my yellow curry. The prices are very very reasonable and value for money. Pad thai and the soup come very highly recomended.

I love Thai food. Muang Thai did not disappoint. The restaurant has a romantic, dark feel to it and the service is always with a smile. I took my girlfriend and mother-​in-​law and we all ordered different dishes. I went for a Thai signature dish, Pad Thai. It was really good. The ladies had green curry and a red curry both with chicken. They loved it.
The bill didn’t make me want to cry and we all left happily fed. I would definitely go back and would recommend Muang Thai to others.
