Handily placed for Muswell Hill and all things Kinks-related as well as Alexandra Palace and Highgate Wood we felt that £164 for a twin room for 3 nights, including cooked breakfast, offered good vfm. Given the age of the property the water preassure on the 2nd floor was a bit hit and miss and the trim around the lino of our en-suite shower needs urgent repair(Room 27) but the place was clean and tidy and the staff at reception and in the dining room were always friendly(the chef/waitress could probably do with a hand on busy mornings though). It’s a bit of a trek if you opt to travel just by Tube as East Finchley station is over a mile away but the neighbourhood’s a pleasant one to walk through in the main. A bus to Muswell Hill and then completing the journey on foot is a shorter option. We’d certainly stay here again in the future.

We stayed here on Friday as we were going to a gig at Alexandra palace, which is about a 15 minute walk away so this hotel is a perfect location! The National has off street parking which is great. We were greeted by the receptionist who asked us to wait in the foyer whilst our rooms were prepared, we had about 20 minute wait which I don’t mind but it’s perhaps a bit lax considering check out 10.30 am and we had arrived at 5pm, I would have thought that were plenty of time for the rooms to be cleaned but obviously not! Our room was basic but comfortable, there was clean bedding the bed was comfy, but there was quite a lot of dust around the place. There are 2 toilets along the hall which are shared between about 10 rooms. One of the toilets was, let’s say dirty, when we arrived and it wasn’t cleaned during our stay. Breakfast was served in the dining room, there was cereal and juice available when we arrived, we were offered toast, tea, coffee etc and full English breakfast. There was nothing full about this breakfast, it was one piece of bacon, one egg some beans and a sausage that was fried to death! They did accommodate a request for a bacon sandwich although managed to mess this up, it was dry toast with minimal bacon in it. On the plus side the hotel staff were very accommodating to our noisy rabble on return from the gig and there didn’t seem to be any complaints about noise! Not a completely horrendous experience and given it’s a lot cheaper than many other hotels in London I would probably go back, but they could do with a bit of a scrub and a lick of paint!

Wow what a lovely part of London this is we cooed as we drove through Muswell Hill. A lovely little part of North London and mere jaunty skip away from The Alexander Palace. Upon arrival at the hotel the pleasent receptionist said that we must wait for 10 minutes whilst they sorted our room. «No Fkin worries gorgeous» I screemed at him. As long as we can drink gin im happy. So we did… After 20 minutes we were shown to our digs. We have room 18. It has a lovely view over the car park. An ideal for any car enthusiast, such as myself. It also conveniently has a bed, tv, kettle and a sink that when used causes a sewage smell to waft up the shower plug hole. This place really does have it all !!! The rooms at best could be described as grimey. Ours came with complimentary boogies smeared over most of the surfaces. Breakfast was free with the room and served between 7 – 9. A slighty sad affair made amusing by the curvature of my small sausage. But this place is dirt dirt cheap. At 67 quid for a double its at least 50 quid cheaper than the local competition. So I may return !
