Old Billingsgate

Considering he has several top top restaurants (probably more than one with Michelin stars) it was great to see that you could get a set menu for lunch at the weekend for a pretty reasonable price.
And that doesn’t mean they scrimp on taste or portion size.
While it was envious to watch the whole crab on the pass, the service was lovely and we were happily «mmmmming» our way through our meal.
Relaxed, bright and tasty. A good little treat to know about in this town rich of history.

As of last night, on Sunday, 07^th of December 2014, the Old Billingsgate venue hosted the Moët British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) — however it’s quite unusal and somewhat very nice to have a celebrity red carpet event in the City.
Because usually, celebrity red carpet awards and events, are often held in the West End, and it’s very rare that they have them in the City.
During the weekends the area surrounding the Old Billingsgate is virtually a no-​mans land, but I do find the area of Monument, very nice and quiet and of course very pleasant to have a walk and a run.

Old Billingsgate sounds like some sort of century old member’s club or a private school for boys. Not a giant convention hall where I got a little buzzed on free champagne. But, here we are.
I came here for a giant event’s convention where they had over 250 sponsors from places like hotels, restaurants and event spaces. And it was clear they had enough room to fill them all and more.
You enter on the ground floor, which has a nice check-​in area. Then you walk through some stone tunnels (where they had some sponsors) where you get up to the main floor filled with booths. It’s a giant space that, with enough tents, begins to feel very labyrinthiney. Still, even with over 1,500 people on the floor, it never felt crowded.
There are also a few rooms for meetings or smaller breakout sessions that worked really well. They had an excellent projector and great audio to hear wherever you were.
Now, I have no idea what it’s like to set up a convention here or what it looks like when there’s nothing in it, but overall, it’s solid! I would come back here for another event, no question.
