A short walk off the Southfields tube station, this place offers a cool reprieve on a hot day. The prices are reasonable for London; I had a cod sandwich for £6, although the £11 burgers only really add fries for the price difference. Add the coleslaw for 50p to the former! I’m not quote used to the lesser service found in pubs, but the new big screen and free wifi made up for it!

This place did seem better on the inside than the outside. The area is broken nicely by pillars and level changes which avoids the usual cavern atmosphere in pubs. Close to Wimbledon and therefore busy after the play for the day, but down a side road so not too bad even then and I got a table. Reasonably priced drinks, including 2 ales, some european lagers and trendy ciders. Wine options are also acceptable. There is of course the food menu. Looks good, varied etc. My only gripe was the value for money. Prices are close to £10 for all their mains(extra for steak), but a very tasty Tikka was upset by the burnt poppadom and lack of mini naan. Not great. That aside, I would suggest a beer here is a good option.

So-so. It’s a pub. Quite a normal pub actually, with a bar, chairs, tables and a fruit machine. Allow me to elaborate. To enter, you must first go through two sets of double doors which can’t be fully opened at the same time as they collide in to each other. After a calculated entry you can see the whole pub — it’s all one floor, one large room(apart from the toilets, they’re upstairs). Bar on the right, chairs and tables around the rest of the room leaving a few spaces of open floor. There’s a raised section at the back but it only has more tables on it(and chairs). Not ‘traditional’ but quite a modern decorative style without the place looking too classy. The«best» bit of the pub is the food and wine. They offer two meals for £9 all day Monday to Friday on ten or so meals and another, more extensive menu for everything else. The food is hardly outstanding but at least it’s not that expensive. The wine list has some good wines on it and a greater choice of plonk than most pubs. The bar staff are helpful and friendly and the locals are a mixed bunch — some loud and slightly irritating but most are just normal pairings/small groups with the occasional regular propping up the bar. Did I mention the fruit machine? So, on the whole, a reasonably normal pub.

This is a nice enough pub — when I saw that it was next to a Wetherspoons I was really hoping that it wouldn’t be part of a chain but it sadly is, I guess they all are these days. It’s a Greene King, I believe. Anyway, drinks are really not that badly priced considering we’re in SW London, and it’s nice inside in a Greene King sort of way. It’s bigger than you’d think, and what I will say is that although I didn’t eat, a disoriented member of staff kept coming over and saying«did you order food?» with some AMAZING looking food in her hands and by the third or fourth time, myself and my companion were very close to just saying«YEP that was us, hand it over.» Traditional English food and big portions, from what I saw, which is what I suppose you need to compete with a Wetherspoons literally terraced nextdoor to you. I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere with only two pubs before where they’ve shared a wall — bizarre. Both seem to be doing fine though. Fourth star for a lovely outdoor seating area on the pavement — it was hotter than the Sun inside.
