Oxfam Books

I love to help others and this is a great way to do it :)

Normally, once a month I pay these guys a visit and I never leave empty handed.
I love this little shop, from the 20’s jazz they’re playing in the background to the super bargains you get on books, comics and video tapes.
The books are in good condition and normally if you buy one, you get one free. The same deal goes for the video tapes (99p for one) and I buy loads for my kid.
Last time I was there I bought 5 books for only £6. If I were to buy them from WHSmith (I did the maths on their site) the total cost would have been £40.50 for the exact same books!!!
Craaaazy!

I do come here from time to time looking for a bargain. However, it is usually a bit hard to browse as I simply don’t get the categorization there.

The quality of second hand books often leaves a lot to be desired, buying first hand costs you a fortune, yet by buying on-​line you are missing out on that wonderful pastime of browsing through anything that catches your eye on the book shelves.
So what to do? Come to this little assortment on Portobello Road. Like Oxfam Originals, Oxfam Books is another great idea. It’s cheap, cheerful, the books are well organised and in pretty good condition. By buying here you also know you’re helping a good cause as of course all the proceeds go to charity.
I’ve bought some great finds, from cookery books to paperbacks that have only recently been published. Definitely worth a browse if you are coming to the market.

This is one of the best Oxfam books around. Always have a great selction, and all the staff are lovely.
It is well layed out, and the staff obviously love books, which always helps! I personnaly love second hand books as I think its nice to read something that is a bit battered and seems as though it’s been loved!

To this day I still can’t walk past this shop without going in. They have such a great collection of secondhand books, for very very good prices. It’s very rare that I will walk out of here without a purchase. They have specialised sections too; music, poetry, fiction, and travel. If anything, it’s a great place to escape the chaotic crowds of the Portobello markets if you’re there in the weekend. And even better — it’s all for charity.

I love charity stores and this one is a great Oxfam outlet specialising in books; it’s not Waterstones of course but they have a great selection, the store is pleasant, prices are keen and you are doing something good!
