Not bad not bad. The unazu was spot on, and the steak was decent, but would have been better if it was warmer. Got slightly cold.

Excellent Japanese place. It is small so book or you’ll end up squeezed at the bar if you’re lucky. Cosy atmosphere, courteous service. The food is really amazing — I always loved everything I had there. Super fresh and tasty. Only minus, the bill, it’s on the pricey side but well worth it. Highly recommended.

Pham is my local go-to for sushi, either takeaway or eat-in. The fish is fresh, the prices are reasonable, and they’ve been willing to make my rolls sans mayo, which I really appreciate. Their tempura is also pretty spot-on, with the right crunch to the vegetables and lightness to the batter. I guess I could have used more tempura sauce last time, but that’s a pretty minor gripe. This also means that their tempura rolls are quite good. They have two different storefronts, one a block farther south down Whitecross and across the street from the other. The north-easterly one is casual and set up for takeaway, the south-westerly one a little nicer and good for eating in. Same prices, same menu.

its a weird set up as the restaurant is split into 2 sites opposite each other. One nicely done with usual Japanese style interior you’d expect and the other like a basic take away shop with tables and chairs. We ended up in the takeaway style shop as there was no room in the nice one :(The menu was great and reasonable priced. The sushi was tasty but I could have made sushi better! The rice wasn’t stuck together and the rolls where unrolling. Also make sure you pee before you go there because there’s no toilet!

Best Sushi in London. They have a small restaurant and a take away shop across the road. Very fresh and delicious.

I’m incredibly torn to give this place a 3, especially when there are so many reviews on here with 4 or 5s. The food was really tasty and exactly what I would want for a simple sushi night. What I didn’t like was how slow the service was. We ordered several basic platters to share and it was a very slow service. It was 40 minutes before anything was on our table, and it would be awhile before another dish was on the table. But what I didn’t appreciate was how rushed they were towards the end. A server said really loudly to another group waiting for a table that they were waiting for us to leave. It definitely dampened a good night out.

Awesome fresh fish. The food is amazing, but sometimes the service can lack a little. We had an order mistake, despite actually pointing at the menu for the item in question, but to be fair, they comped us the mistaken scallop nigiri, which was pretty nice. The crunchy tuna roll was yum.

Pham is the best take-away and delivery sushi in London. The rock shrimp tempura is amazing and the sushi and sashimi is always fresh and delicious. My only negatives are that it is closed on Sundays and that I spend too much money there… but that’s my own fault.

I’ve popped in here a couple of times now for lunch. It’s a nice quiet place with a relaxing vibe(Very zen). The staff are polite and friendly and very attentive. On both occasions I ordered the Tori Katsudon which was tasty. I like this place because it’s a nice escape from the hustle, bustle and drudgery of London life. I have seen complaints on other reviews on this place about the service charge and the price of the meals. I work around this area so have been to a number of food places in the surrounding streets. Every single one of them have a mandatory service charge, so this shouldn’t really be unexpected. As for the price of the food, my meal is always under nine pounds and fills me up quite easily so absolutely no complaints here! Will definitely be back for more.

A friend and I were in search of a place to eat in our office area, then stumbled upon this jewel. It was the best encounter ever. First, the food was amazing. We ordered a plate of sushi to share, and I ordered a couple different types of rolls for myself. The sushi was super fresh — it makes my mouth water just thinking about it! My rolls were phenomenal too. Every type was so flavourful and so exquisite — definitely not your average rolls! The ambience was very cozy and intimate. I loved the warm lighting and a sense of exclusivity that this small restaurant had. Further, we sat at the sushi bar and could see the chef cut his sushi which made everything feel so much more authentic. I could tell that the chef was experienced and very skilled. Finally, service was solid. They were prompt to take our orders, check on us and bring the bill(which I’ve learned that not all restaurants are capable of). I will most definitely go back when I’m craving for sushi!

I stumbled upon this place by chance and decided to try it. However, I was disappointed that it was £25 wasted. I ordered the sushi and sashimi combination set and cold soba. The tuna sashimi was sadly, flaky and the roll of sushi wasn’t even cut evenly. Even though the taste was not too bad(too much rice, too little filling), the presentation was horrid, and Japanese food is enjoyed with much of the presentation. The soba was tough and wasn’t nice to eat. The part where I was quite taken aback was the mandatory service charge they had on the bill. I would have happily tipped had not the glaring 10% that was already in my bill. Regretfully the entire experience just wasn’t as nice as expected(and this was after a week of craving Japanese food).

This place is good, not amazing but good. I went with a friend on a Wednesday evening at 8.30PM and was happy I’d booked a table as it was already very busy and we would have unlikely got a seat if no booking had been made. I’m new enough to Sushi and having just returned from NYC and been very impressed, I decided to see what London had to offer. The service was attentive and efficient, although I did feel that there was a bit of an up sell element after we’d ordered whereby the waitress tried to get us to order more. However, what we got was sufficient for both of us(the Set B combo and a Crusty Tuna Roll, both to share). The fish was fresh and the tuna roll delicious. The very reason I tried the crunchy tuna was due to a Unilocal review, which was true to form. We weren’t stuffed but I was satisfied. The place is small and slightly cramped but the buzzing chatty atmosphere overcomes this. Overall I am likely to return :) Tip: If booking, request that you are not seated by the door, which is frequently opening with people coming in and out.

Pham has two locations, across the street from one another. I have only been to the casual takeaway one, not the restaurant, so keep that in mind when reading this. I recently moved just around the corner, and being a sushi fiend, I have already been a few times. The prices are reasonable, and the fish is great! Often I find relatively cheap places to have quality that matches, but they don’t skimp much on my orders, if at all. They’re quick, very nice, and when I want something off the menu they’ve had no problem making it for me. It is very small and when I sat in the service was a bit slow, but everything has been delicious each time I have gone or gotten takeaway. If you live in the area or are just stopping by and want good sushi that won’t make your wallet cry, check it out. Tips: Both locations are closed on Sundays, and the takeaway location has no bathroom so you have to walk to the restaurant location just across the street.

The portions are not decent, but the sushi is luxurious food according to me. Don’t expect your stomach to be full after four-five rolls. I want to say that in this place they prepare really tasty sushi. I can eat the rolls with my fingers in order to feel the taste on a better way. The professionals are experienced and you won’t regret if you go there.

One of the better sushi restaurants I have found thus far in London. They have a wide variety of rolls but I wish the menu had more details as to what is included in each of the special rolls. Prices are reasonable. Reservations are a must.

One of my favourite sushi restaurants in London. They will prepare it right in front of you and the quality is excellent. The only downside is it’s tiny so can get very busy at times… I’ve been really disappointed twice though… Because they were closed when I arrived(my fault, not theirs)! :)

Now that’s excellent Sushi! You won’t come for the atmosphere, which is not worth writing home about. But you’ll come for the friendly service and most importantly for the excellent food. Tried four different Nigiri, and particularly the Toro stands out for melting in your mouth and tasting excellent. Even the California roll, which has become a run-of-the-mill sushi item, is done superbly, perfect rice, mature avocado, and a bit of fish roe to round of the surimi. Also had the Seaweed Salad for starter, and that was a very pleasant surprise, as well. Not your standard spicy seaweed salad, but actually four different types of seaweed served on a banana leaf on a bowl of crushed ice. Served with a well-tasting spicy peanut sauce that makes this an unusual but very tasty dish. Hope I will find an opportunity to come back!

The Sushi here is second to none. It actually brought me out of my «not eating fish«retirement. The soft shell crab roll was amazing. And they were very accomodationg of my allergy to Avocado. They made my rolls without it(although they did tell me it wouldn’t taste as good!). The service is great, and the décor is low key. Highly recommend it!

Sick of conveyor-belt sushi? Offended by gimmicky noises, bright colours, and bad service? Suspicious that your sushi sixpence is funding the overheads, branding, marketing, head office, and other constituent parts of a modern, faddy fashion food factory, instead of being pumped directly into good quality ingredients and superb sushi chef talent? Every Debbie from Daggenham and their dog«absolutely adores» sushi these days. It’s time to branch out, refuse to touch the dross they sell you in supermarkets, and shun those chain restaurants. First stop? Pham Sushi. Pham is a fabulous restaurant for those looking for a simple low-key dining experience with minimum fuss and maximum sushi gorgeousness. It’s a small place, but clearly favoured by those who live locally and it’s easy to see why; it has a delightful gentle feel because of the subdued lighting and music, and a classy interior.(The music: incredibly relaxing Spanish guitar and orchestra music playing chart hits from Beyonce to Billy Joel to Wet Wet Wet. Winner.) We were sat at a table really quite close to another couple, the space was tight but people’s faces were glowing; a decidedly un-Western approach to dining and as far as I’m concerned that’s a good thing. We had the Pham Special Sushi plate at £13 plus three or four other individual sushi choices, all the food essentially came out on two large platters, plus the most humble of accompaniments(bottle sparkling /miso soup). As a Friday night dinner out, this was decidedly un-extravagant for me, however by the end we were absolutely stuffed with superb food, and extremely happy because of the wonderful tastes we had just experienced. The inside out rolls were amazing, they kind of fell apart as you eat them but the rice was so soft and so delicious. We also had this tempura sushi which I had never tried before. An impressively large roll of sushi(futo maki) which was sliced very thinly(I’ve cut sushi, this must have been very difficult!) and fried to perfection. It was gently warmed when we tucked in. Unexpected and brilliant. Quality of the fish was superb, combination of tastes spot-on, and presentation was good. It makes the stuff you can get at certain other restaurants taste like plastic. Do not be put-off by their website’s use of Comic Sans. I can’t recommend Pham highly enough for low-key sushi dining in City /Barbican area.

This is quite honestly one of my favourite places to eat in my part of town! Whilst Pham can have a tendency to be a little on the pricey side, and you really do need to book a table if you want to eat-in, it is absolutely worth every penny! The sashimi is the freshest and most delicious I have tasted in London, and the yellow tail tuna with jalapeños is hands(or fins) down the best thing on the menu. The serving staff are polite and attentive and the restaurant is cosy, with the sushi bar providing entertainment as you wait for your food — in fact it’s quite good to sit at the bar as you can watch the sushi and sashimi being prepared. Go there… eat sushi… be happy(that should be their new slogan).
