«My granddaughters can’t get enough of their marionettes and one’s set about writing a play for them. I’ll be back soon for some stocking-fillers.» Mr. Bob Figgess

«The story-telling workshop was fun and good value. My kids played with the finger-puppets they made all afternoon.» Sarah Nightingale.

«The party was magical, the children had a fantastic time — they didn’t want to leave!» Catherine Kelsey

«I think it’s really important for children to use their hands and imagination, not just watch TV and computer games. Playing with puppets is great.»

Mrs. Pat Weston

History

Established in 2003.

Puppet Planet is a magical place filled with puppets from past and present. You will find collectors’ items and contemporary classics from all round the world. Punch and Judy rub shoulders with characters from Thunderbirds — Pelham, Hazelle, traditional African and Indian marionettes. You can commission a customised caricature puppet, book an entertaining party or come along to a hands-on workshop.

The puppet theme is found on hankies and jewellery, cards and stationery. There’s something for everyone including toys suitable for babies. Children can put on a play in the corner theatre so there’s time to browse. A wide range of products are in stock or available to order including free standing and door hanging theatres. There are books about puppets and books which are puppets!

Whether you’re looking for a ventriloquist dummy or a jumping-jack, shadow puppets or dancing bubaloos, in Puppet Planet you will find gifts for pocket money or investment which are educational and fun!

Meet the Business Owner

lesley B.

Business Owner

For the past ten years ‘Puppet Planet’ has been one of the few specialist puppet shops in England; Lesley is currently editing a pilot episode for a TV puppet series set behind its doors. «I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of bringing something to life,» she says. Equally concerned with unlocking people’s potential as well as making money, Lesley points out: «Being commercial doesn’t have to be mercenary — after all, the word ‘commerce’ is associated with the god Mercury, who symbolises Communication. My shop opens doors for myself and others — through my business enterprise I get to meet the most amazing people.» She describes her philosophy of life as «creating work that touches people’s hearts and in turn inspires them to be creative». The reputation of her shop Puppet Planet attracts visitors to South London from all around the world. Lesley may be busy but that’s just how she likes it: «I’ve got so many balls in the air… it’s a good job I can juggle!»
