Went here for coffee and cake on a sunday evening. I ended up having herbal tea instead as wasn’t too keen on coffee late in the evening. Tea was lovely and presented in a teapot. My friend had the chocolate cake which she loved and she is a chocoholic and knows her chocolate cakes. It was lovely and quiet, so we could easily catch up with no problems hearing each other. There was a lot of seats so can’t ever see it being too busy that you can’t get a seat. The waiter was really friendly and his suggestions on cake were spot-on.

Whilst waiting for friends I thought I would wile away the time with a cocktail at Rafkins, that claimed it was a restaurant and bar. Whilst the espresso martini I had was acceptable, there wasn’t really anything exceptional about it. You enter and to your left there is a bar, partitioned by a wall to your right there is a restaurant seating area. The bar and restaurant area lacked atmosphere and you could tell that the lady behind the bar was also cooking the food in the kitchen for a couple of people who were eating. It took a while for our drinks to arrive, and whilst she they were presented well, she looked quite worn out from all the running around. There is nothing particular that you could complain about the place, but it just wasn’t that good either. Although if you do fancy somewhere to meet some friends where you can actually hear them without any distractions and have a few casual drinks, then this might be a good spot. They do have some lovely sofa’s at the front which are perfect for lounging on.
