This place is teeny tiny, which I read before going there but was still shocked. I forgot there was a festival going on in Greenwich the day I decided to go in, and this place was obviously full to capacity because filling it takes less than 20 people! I waited patiently out the front though and since I was one lone person, eventually shared my table of 4 with a couple and one other singleton who were also keen to get a seat. As for the actual food, etc I will definitely be going back. I got the carrot cake which was the absolute best I’ve had since I stopped believing that a dessert couldn’t be made out of a vegetable. So moist and still slightly warm, hugely generous portion and just perfect. I’m already planning to go back in the morning tomorrow to get some brunch before work because this place is so well priced and delicious! My mocha, cake and scone only came to £6, which for London is next to a miracle. Definitely recommend.

Ok, I clearly didn’t do Royal Teas right. I was in Greenwich and needed an hour to kill to work. I did a quick Unilocal search and found this little café with amazing reviews and went to check it out. It’s easy to walk right by this place, but don’t. Inside is small but with a homey feeling and staff that are very friendly. I ordered a cappuccino and asked for their WIFI code. Nope. No wifi and the drink tasted more like weak coffee with hot cocoa mix on top. Damn. However, I’m not going to fault them, because I came for the wrong things. The food they were serving looked amazing and fresh and well prepared(and damn cheap after taking a glance at the menu) and the tea selection is lovely. I was able to grab BT Wifi and they let me work in peace for the hour — they didn’t even bug me to pay for my drink. I actually had to seek them out to do it. Plus, it was less than £2 for a cappuccino, so I have no rights to complain about anything. So do not come here to work or drink coffee. Do come here for a break from Greenwich insanity. It’s a haven for that for sure.

We were fortunate enough to find this place on Qype whilst staying in Greenwich one night for a wedding. We were STARVING and Royal Tea did not disappoint. Extensive veggie menu, a rarity for vegetarians, we had the full veggie breakfast for £6.25 and it was probably the best I’ve had. Considerable choice of different fresh ground coffees and if i’d had any room, i’d have tried some cake. Well worth seeking out.

some more coffee shops and tea houses on my blog:
When my parents came to visit, we did a lot of sightseeing and walking around in different parts of the city and ended up also in Greenwich. As much as I like Greenwich, I just never know where to go as everything is rather touristy. Thank god we found this lovely place somewhere up Royal Hill named Royal Teas. Royal Tea is small and comfy and does some seriously delicious hot chocolate and for me, who is into weird teas, the choice of lavender tea. It was full of locals enjoying hot drinks and cakes. I also liked the fact that their breakfast is incredibly well-priced e.g. salmon and eggs for 4.75 and scrambled eggs on toast for 2.35. I haven’t tried them but I would trust them to do it right. If I lived in Greenwich I would be there all the time!

Royal Teas is Greenwich’s own little corner of calm. I ran into this lovely little café during a storm, seeking warmth, shelter and coffee and was duly rewarded. The staff were helpful and friendly, and served me up a huge pot of Javanese coffee and a slice of cake for under a fiver. I spent a very pleasant afternoon reading my book, munching Chocolate and Almond cake between huge slurps and slowly drying off. I couldn’t have asked for a nicer spot for a sit down and a nice brew. Being located on a wee hill in Greenwich, it’s quite compact so it can get very busy very quickly. Plus, I got the impression that it closed quite early in the afternoon if they didn’t get enough customers coming through the doors. But it somehow manages to be cute without being overly twee, and is the perfect place for a quick lunch or a long leisurely perusal of the papers. A real Greenwich gem.

Great wee café; good coffee, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and good value. Simple as that!

This is the best tea show in the world, it truely is the definition of small but perfectly formed! Tucked away from the main drag of Greenwich it is frequented almost entirely by locals reading papers and eating gorgeous homemade cakes from a selection so broad that it often leaves me flumuxed when trying to decide!(though if pushed I’d always recommended the ginger cake warmed with ice cream) Tea is served in silver pots with antique cups and saucers and you can chose your tea from an extensive list. A nice selection of mainly vegetarian food is also on offer and fresh juices are made. This is a true gem and though I love it’s smallness I wish they’d extend it as it’s sometimes impossible to get a table!

It’s cute in here. Very Greenwich, Slightly girly, but it’s a really wonderful find. not least because I had a great lunch in there today for less than four pounds. This is the posh bit of Greenwich so anything under a fiver was abit of a shock. I had a spanish omlette and sauteed potatos for £3.75. Yep. £3.75. I’ve been feeling a bit queasy today and it was perfect. Just light enough so I didn’t feel icky, but enough food for me to stop feeling faint. I think it’s vegetarian in here, but I’m not sure. They serve salmon, but that’s the only meat I could spot on the menu. That said, everything is yummy and healthy and my carrot and ginger juice was great. I feel better and healthy. Yay! They also do book swappy things and have papers. You can have cream tea for a fiver and buy ground coffee beans. It’s very cute in here. And I don’t feel sick anymore so I’m happy.
