the only good thing I can say about this restaurant is that the miso soup was fantastic. But then again, it’s pretty hard to screw up miso soup. I ordered Tuna Sashimi: portions were ok. Seemed fresh — no sketchy odor so that’s good. Sweet Shrimp Sushi: ridiculously tiny and waaaay over priced. Tuna Maki Roll: terrible!!! The rice was a poor texture, probably over-cooked and over worked and the nori was like leather. Pretty much ineatible; more like expired prepackaged grocery store maki rolls. My friends didn’t have a much better experience either. One friend ordered the Chicken Teriyaki and received some sort of mystery meat — definitely was NOT chicken. She was completely grossed out. Unfortunately it was the most expensive dinner I’ve ever had and didn’t even eat much of it! We left with both empty stomachs and empty wallets. To satisfy our hunger we picked up some crisps at a near-by Spar on our way back to our hotel. Very disappointing meal out!

my girlfriend and i dined here last summer when we were staying in a hostel in bayswater and were craving nothing but sushi. we live in vancouver where sushi is kinda more like fast food. everywhere to find, affordable and, well… fast. the place was empty and the waitress being trained by the owner. they were very friendly but i felt kinda awkward cos it was so much fancier than what we are used to. we ordered a couple miso soups and avocado rolls and some tamago and inari nigiri. it was delicious but the portions were very small compared to what we usually get. we had to hold ourselves back from ordering more and more… our bill came to £26. in vancouver we would have paid about £10 for the same order with way bigger pieces. it was an interesting experience with quality sushi and i’m glad we came to experience what japanese restaurants in london are like but i’m happy to live in vancouver where i can grab some cheap take out right across from where i live

Perfectly ok, but as Yee Gan said, nothing really recommends it. And I didn’t even think it was that cheap? I was not too fond of their sushi as I found the rice a little too sticky and over cooked. My soft shell crab roll had very good, freshly fried crab in it, but crab and cucumber by itself doesn’t make the best of soft shell crab rolls combinations. Ten– Zaru came with freshly fried yummy prawns, but the tempura coating was slightly too thick and soba noodles slightly overcooked. The tsuyu sauce in my opinion was over-diluted. Overall it was pretty edible. I’d come again if I was on Bayswater and gagging for Japanese, but otherwise; probably not.

Saki, located right across the street from the Bayswater tube stop, is a medium size restaurant serving sushi rolls as well as warm entrees. I ordered a tempura shrimp and cucumber roll that was delicious. My starter was a seaweed salad that consisted of mostly iceberg lettuce with seaweed in it(as opposed to only seaweed). For £4.50, I would have expected exclusively seaweed in my salad and was disappointed with the abundance of iceberg lettuce. My companion ordered an assortment of nigiri and very much enjoyed all of the rolls. The fish was very fresh and well prepared. I am going with an «A-OK» rating b/c of the seaweed salad and the slowness of service. Despite being there during a slow lunch hour with only one other table occupied, it took us about 20 minutes to receive our order which seemed long. If I’m in the area, I’ll probably pop in for sushi here, but definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to hit up this joint in the future.

Saki is the only Japanese restaurant on this drag of Queensway. The bento boxes for lunch are relatively cheap but not a lot of choice or combos. I like a mixture of 2 or 3 different main items in the bento box — it’s really the reason for me to get one. However, here, it’s mainly just one main item. There are also options for some sushi and noddles but it’s average. Nothing other than the price to recommend it.

Sushi at Saki was surprisingly good — judging from the simple and normal-looking shop front. On their sushi menu there’s quite a wide range of nigeri, maki and sashimi. These bits and pieces are freshly made by the politely smiling Japanese chef. Very good — espcially when washed down with a nice Kirin beer. Considering the price it was of great price performance ratio. If I’d ever come back to Bayswater I am ready to drop in again.

I’d walked past this place a couple of times and vowed to try it when I had a chance. I walked past today and they were advertising their lunch special of a bento box with salad, pickles and fruit for £5 not bad at all. So I ordered the lunch special — admittedly I was expecting to be able to choose what type of bento box I wanted(e.g chicken, beef, salmon, etc) but it’s really a set menu. Today’s offering was beef with green onions. Fair enough. I was also hankering for some California rolls so I ordered some(very reasonable at £2.50 for 6 rolls) — they were some of the best California rolls I’ve had in a long time. Crunch cucumber, flavorful crab, great texture. Really good. The bento box meal was also pretty good although having had the rolls, I think next time I’ll be sticking with the sushi. So not bad, obviously not a high-end place, but definitely doable.
