This is the best Thai curry in London. No, I’m serious. And it’s a secret, judging by the limited number of Unilocal reviews on here. However, local workers know about it, and this is reflected in the long queues every lunchtime. The only place I know that does a peanut-free Massaman curry– and it’s delicious. Their fried chicken wings are to die for. Not your usual KFC, but marinaded for 24 hours in Thai herbs and spices, and then deep fried, then drizzled with an appropriate amount of homemade sweet chilli sauce. Since I moved away from London, I’ve not been able to find an adequate replacement for these. Also, very friendly mom-and-pop store. Only minus is that they can disappear on holiday without prior notice, so you’re already salivating at the thought of your meal… and then the van isn’t there. Highly recommend.

The curry was nice enough, but the queue is SOLONG for something that only needs to be spooned out. However, the price is low and it’s nice to get a wide choice of Thai dishes. I prefer Thai Thai(a few metres down the road) because it’s almost the same price and you can wait for it to be made inside.

Sawadee food truck can be found standing alone at the north end of Whitecross St market, on the corner with Old St. At lunchtime you will find a queue right from noon when they open up shop. The devotees go there for a reason. The food is great to eat and it’s super value too. Several Thai curries will be on offer such as: — Red curry(chicken) — Green curry(veg) — Musaman curry(chicken) — Penang curry(beef) They also serve crispy bonus options such as fried wontons and spring rolls. The line moves quite slowly as the two owners are super diligent and carefully serve up your choice of curry and rice so be patient, it’s worth it. Go for a combo of two like I did(slightly sweet and mild Musaman with good amounts of tender chicken plus fiery veg green with beancurd and mixed veggies). So I am a big fan given the great food and value at around £4.
