Seasons is the small place you’ll have missed when you last walked down Kings St between Chiswick and Hammersmith. They are trying everything from the reality TV shows of Ramsay or Blanc for drumming up business at this little place… local adverts, handing out fliers, special set menu deals, 50% of with Taste London… they’re really proud of their restaurant and you get the feeling that they’re fighting to make a name for themselves on this crowded strip of dining out. Sadly I was hoping for a lot more from Seasons. We went Al A Carte with our choices… things like steak and oyster pie or langoustine with mullet… but every dish failed to live up to the description. Sure, people like Ramsay preach to get the best ingredients and let them speak for themselves, but I think they’ve screwed it up here. Steak is good, oysters are good — but together? No… and especially not when you only get one oyster in the whole pie. Keep it simple Seasons — dishes should be greater than the sum of the parts, not less. The combination of our poor dishes with a quiet night was heading Seasons for a two star no no, but I think they deserve more because the few other diners all seemed much more happy with their meals. The reason — they all had the 2 courses for 10 pound set menu which had a gorgeous big bowl of muscles which you could accompany with one of the good wines or Belgian beers. So perhaps Seasons is worth a recommendation — but my advice, get the set menu or the special(half-price rib eye on Sat!) and don’t order any fancy combinations.
