St. John’s Wood Underground Station

Designed by Harold Stabler, St Johns Wood Underground Station is a Grade3 listed building and opened in 1939.
It is one of my favourite underground stations. I really like it’s simplistic, yet stylish design. You can tell that it was designed and built in the 1930’s. Going down the escalators looking at the lamps gives you a feel of going back to a bygone era, where design was probably more important than the budget. The tiles in station were cleaned up and replaced in 2006. The entrance, where the ticket hall was, is circular. I don’t know why, but however hot it is, there is always a breeze as if the ticket hall is acting like a wind tunnel. The ticket hall also has a free to use ATM cash machine.
Originally this station was on the Bakerloo line. It switched to the Jubilee line when that opened in 1979. It has a very good an frequent service. You can get to London Bridge in 15 minutes, and Baker Street in 3 minutes. It’s the closet London station to both Lord’s cricket ground, Abbey Road recording studio, made famous by the Beatles, where the famous zebra crossing photo was taken, the one where all the tourists pose to take their own photos (the zebra was actually moved, so it’s not at the zebra in the original Beatles photo). The station even has a Beatles themed coffee shop.
It really is one of my favourite London Underground stations.

As Tube Stations go this ones alright. It is clean, well maintained and in a nice quiet area of London. There are direct connections with the buses at the entrance/​exit. The ticket machines are easily accessible and the Underground Map was large for many people to have a look at without being in each others way.
— 1 star, though for the incredible cold draft you get when coming up the escalators.

Bit confusing for connections but clean and nuisance free.

A very deep station on the Jubilee Line between Baker Street and Swiss Cottage, St. John’s Wood is in Travelcard Zone 2. It does not have step-​free access to the platforms and instead has escalators. There are automated ticket vending machines, a staffed ticket booth and Oyster card readers on the ticket barricades.
Relatively modern, compared to many other stations, it was opened in 1939. It’s the closest to the famous Abbey Road studios as well as the Lord’s Cricket Ground, so you’ll find that the newspaper agent sells a good bit of Beatles memorabilia here.
I found that there was a heck of a breeze in the ticket area when the trains came into and left the station. Nearly took me off my feet!

Ever a station to visit, St John’s Tube is close to two tourist must-​sees — Lord’s Cricket Ground and the Abbey Road Recording Studios including THAT famous zebra crossing featured on the Beatles’ Abbey Road album.
The tube station is on the Jubilee Line, just one long escalator underground, including a Beatles café with memorabilia on the walls.
And a word of advice, if you want to travel from St John’s Wood to East London, either catch the Jubilee Line around or get off at Bond St and catch the Central Line — the Hammersmith & City, and Circle Lines from Baker Street are horribly slow and take double the time!
