Popped in here by accident last weekend whilst on a flower mission on Columbia Road. The previous evenings beer required a solid coffee stop and this place has a lovely coffee hatch right next to the front door. The staff were more than friendly and really up for a laugh which was nice to see such a personal touch. The coffee was very good, I believe it was Monmouth, but this isn’t based on confirmations. After the caffeine I thought it was right to just sneak my head in the door and a really nice art gallery waited for me. Some really nice people in here that are more than friend and welcoming. I’ll certainly be back next time I’m required to stock up on flowers. Yep, that happens.

Start Space helps collectors find new/established artists and vice versa. The Columbia Road office helps artists to sell their work directly to the people who are looking for great new work. They also have a coffee shop a la all Columbia Road premise.

The problem with all the shops and places on Columbia road are the opening times, and this gallery makes no exception. I understand the fact that the road gets busy only on weekends but so many times I have found my self standing behind closed doors, as happened again last week when I tried visiting this little gallery. Annoying! So if you just can, visit the street on weekends. But back to the business. Start Space shows varied selection of contemporary art. Maybe not the most experimental gallery, with even slightly commercially flavored pieces, and I have not been able to spot any red line between the artists and styles. But it is exactly the fact that you never know what you are gonna get what makes this an interesting place to pop in.
