Such a beautiful museum, yet what a disappointing experience at the café. If you visit the Tate, which is free, do not waste your money or time eating there. I decided to eat there after a museum visit based in the Unilocal 4-and-a-half star rating. Do not be deceived by the modern interior design. There is nothing modern about the menu or the service. It took nearly 30 minutes for my bland chicken sandwich to arrive. Touted as a chicken burger served on brioche bread, my dish was nothing but a piece of unmarinated and unseasoned chicken breast, sloppily thrown together on a plain hamburger bun with two tiny pieces of lettuce and one slice of tomato. For about £17, or about $ 25, i could have had a much better lunch anywhere in this city.

The café has great views but its the places around that need seeing too. Frankly I am amazed that the Tate has allowed such a tacky mural when its your first introduction to the place from the rear of the building. But the statue to the unknown artist deserves compliment

Excellent and good value food and wine — happy not to be ripped off in Central London for once.

This self-service café serves a very nice selection of light set meals, cakes and tea/coffee. Ideal for lunch or a quick snack while at the gallery. The set meals are of very good quality, and reasonably priced(considering you are in an art gallery). I had cous cous with butternut squash and herbal dressing(£4.50), and my friend had a smocked mackerel and beetroot salad(£5.50). Generous portions and full of flavour. I didn’t have a chance to try the cakes, but they looked freshly baked and very nice. The café is on Level 4, so you are unlikely to find yourself there unless you are visiting the gallery, however entrance is free so anyone can come in for a healthy and tasty lunch.
