The Armadillo Café is a pleasant enough place to spend some time. But it’s expensive and the coffee is awful. Let’s start with the positives. The large, south-east facing windows on the shop front mean that the tables inside are bathed in natural light, an effect amplified by the white walls. The clientel when I was there seemed to be from the nearby Monsoon and Talk Talk offices, making the Armadillo seem more upmarket than it actually is. The food is okay too, even if it’s hard to go wrong with a baked potato and cheese. It seems to be priced at the high end of fair, at £5.50, until you realise you can get a similar combo at the nearby, superior, Nottingdale Café for half the price. The biggest negative however is the coffee, which was so bad I couldn’t finish. I’m not expecting miracles here, or even ‘artisan’ coffee served by hipster baristas. This is west London after all, where such coffee experiences are extremely rare. In these circumstances I’d settle for ‘okay’. Warm, comforting, coffee-scented but uncomplex. Unfortunately the coffee here is nowhere near that, and imposes the extra indignity of being quite expensive too at £2.40, a price that hints at ‘artisan’ quality. Incredible. As it is, the best coffee in this stretch is probably at the Edward Woods Community Centre 100 metres away, which is saying something. Overall, 1.5, which I’ll generously round to 2.

Lovely little café which caters for the local offices. During summer, seats are available outside. It has a really lovely feel to it and I am quite upset it isn’t open at weekends. I live locally and have only been able to sample the café on the odd day off work.
