For me, this is my idea of Heaven. There are endless different basses, from the cheap to the super high end. There are dozens of cabs, amps, pre-amps, all waiting for you to plug in and unleash your inner rock star. By no means am I an exceptional bassist. I get by though, have done alright in the past. However, when I knew last month that I wouldn’t be able to bring any of my basses back with me from the States, I knew the bass monster would start eating away at me. I finally caved. Originally, I had intended on a totally different bass, but after browsing the many fine quality Bass guitars that they have, talking shop with one of the employees, plugging in a few different ones, I had fallen in love. Love for a piece of musical equipment is special. It finds you. It just sits there, day in and day out, getting its strings plucked by other people, but then once you pick it up, it just knows, this bass was meant for you. And with that and some decent bargaining, I had a new Fender Jazz Bass. The guys here were extremely helpful, had a good bit of input that they were willing to share and made it really easy to leave the shop with a new Bass and all the gear I would need to get playing.

It’s nice to see a shop on Denmark Street that doesn’t specialise in 6 stringed instruments. The Bass Cellar, as the name suggests, specialises in bass guitars. It is not the biggest shop around, but it is probably the biggest selection of basses that you will find in the area. There is a bass for everyone in this shop, cheap or expensive, colourful or bland, big or small etc. The staff are really nice and are more than happy to help you find the right bass. This place really does have a passion for the bass guitar, and there are pictures of bass guitar heros all over the walls.
