Since when has The Bull been an American restaurant? It’s a modern British restaurant and microbrewery. Their own beer is very nice, and reasonably priced. The menu isn’t as imaginative as it was when the restaurant/microbrewery opened a few years back, which is sad, but the fod remains edible and not that outrageously priced by Highgate standards.

The Bull in Highgate is a quality and inviting gastro pub. We enjoyed the atmosphere which is relaxing, comfortable and felt a lot like home. The menu has a good diversity of selections ranging from pub standards to more ambitious entries though I only sampled the fish and chips which were good. I would defer to other reviewers on the quality of the menu overall. Beer selections include local small breweries and the in-house microbrewery. I tried Upright and Beer Street, both good. Outdoor seating is on an attractive patio albeit with a bit of traffic noise. I have no reservation about recommending The Bull and if I lived near Highgate I’d be a regular!

The Bull is a good balance between pub and gastropub. They brew their own beer(London Brewing Company) which is pretty good, 8.5÷10. Good rotation of well chosen guest ales. Nice garden terrace out at the front, which has recently been refurbished. On slightly noisy road but pleasant. Inside is cosy and mostly good atmosphere, but slightly subdued because of the restaurant and mostly older clientele. Not giving 5⁄5 because of the food. It is good, but doesn’t quite match the price. Burgers are good. Sunday roast is very good, but I prefer the beef at the The Wrestlers up the road, a bit more rare and slightly thicker cut.

I love The Bull — I’ve been here twice, most recently for their Garden Party and it was quite a hit. The wait staff is super helpful and will give you samples of beer and make really good recommendations after getting a feel for what you like. The prices are reasonable and the space is big with some terrace drinking and a beer garden set out back for the occasionally nice days in London. :). And the food is great! I generally wouldn’t travel to Highgate for a pub(especially since I live in Southeast London), but I would to return here!

Fabulous beer made in their own facility as well as wonderful food. It’s a place I will come often. In winter it’s cozy and in summer they have a lovely garden. It’s a must go to in Highgate.

I’m a pub roast sceptic. My stance, in general, is that roasts are one of the few meals that are insurpassably better when they are homemade. Slithers of meat accompanied by stodgy potatoes and a heap of wet veg, drizzled lightly in thin gravy, as if it were a salad dressing? No thanks. The Bull is the first pub *ever* to make me rethink this. I had the pork belly, after some discussion with the waiter. She recommended this due to its size and the good crackling. I was swung by this as I didn’t want a meagre portion. And she was completely right. The belly was longer than any I’d seen before and it was crisped to perfection. The beautiful moist meat was superb and the crackling was divine. I really couldn’t have asked for anything better. The roast potatoes weren’t any good, but I guess that’s too much to hope for! It’s also just a lovely pub. We sat outside on a sunny day, but inside was also charming — just like a pub should be. There was a great stack of boardgames too. I wasn’t drinking but there was obviously a good selection.

Genuine fine dining at gastropub prices. Exhaustive drink list and super knowledgeable and friendly staff. Some of the best food in the area. Will be back again and again!

Easily one of the top pubs in London. Randomly found this pub on a walk up from Hampstead Heath and we keep going back. They have a great beer selection — stocked with all types of different beers, including their own which is brewed in the back. The food was much better than your traditional pub food, offerring slightly more creative and tasty choices such as duck confit waffle and gnocchi. The service is wonderful — everyone server is incredibly attentive. And the ambience is great — big comfy tables and lots of board games to pass the time while you eat and drink.

The bull is very beautiful, both in its interior and exterior. It has the feel of an old country pub and is almost always buzzy and with a great atmosphere. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and are clearly very knowledgable about the menu. The food comes in huge portions, and I really mean huge. The Yorkshire puddings were the size of my head. The food is average — good but nothing special and I wouldn’t recommend the Bull if you’re looking for particularly great food. The vegetables were hard and undercooked and the tart for dessert was sickeningly sweet and too hard to cut. The meat, however, particularly the crackling, was fairly good. The food also took a while to arrive. If you’re looking for good beer rather than good food, the Bull is the place — the beer is exquisite. The bill came to £100 including a gratuity. That was for 5 people. So if you’re looking for a fairly cheap, average dining experience with wonderful beer and a wonderful atmosphere, the Bull is the place for you. I can’t give more than 2 stars simply because I expected much, much higher quality food, but had I just come for the beer, I would’ve given 3 or 4.

Had such a good time and meal that I actually forgot to check in here today. Fantastic food, friendly staff… Oh yeah-great beer. Brilliant Sunday roast we had the beef, the chicken, and the lamb and all were lovely. Had three small children with us and they were very accommodating.

This is the best pubstaurant in Highgate IMO, beating the Red Lion & Sun by some margin because of: * Better interior feel and ambience * Better staff and service experience * More interesting and better kept selection of beers(this is in fact a brew-pub) Don’t just take my word for it, pop in for a pint of bitter and lunch some time.

After having our first date at this pub my boyfriend and I have become regulars, the great food and atmosphere and wonderful drink selection mean we can try something different almost every time while still enjoying our favourites like burgers and chips and chicken wings ! We also enjoy trying not to come last on the pub quiz on Monday evenings :) great pub, lovely staff I highly recommend !

I visited the Bull with a friend and my cousin, who is a regular. We ordered many appetizers including a meat platter, salmon with cream, chicken liver, fries(or chips), and the chicken wings special. There were probably a few more things we ordered individually, but we really had quite a feast that evening. Every dish was very flavorful and well presented, compliments to the chef! I can see why my cousin’s a regular there. We had the raspberry beer, which was very tasty too. I normally prefer fruity ciders and the raspberry beer was just as good. We were very full, but tried some desserts which were not as good. The décor and lighting was gorgeous, it provided a great atmosphere to the place and definitely seemed more of a fancy restaurant in that way. It was a lot nicer than most of the pubs I had visited earlier in my visit to London. I’d love to make a few more visits in the future!

Relatively new brewpub on the North beer scene. Their beers are actually rather tasty, especially Skyline. Must have been some kind of offer on for it to be less than three quid a pint. Usually it is a bit more expensive I think. It is actually quite cosy when you get used to it and the terrace out front would be pretty nice if I ever get here in decent weather. Friendly place too. Has grown on me a lot over a handful of visits.

At the end of a long week full of networking, meeting folks and generally being ‘on’, this was the perfect place to chill out with a couple of folks and knock back a pint of four. Ask me where this place is and i’ll throw you one of those blank expressions you see on a dog after you’ve just shown it a card trick. Ask me if I’ll go back again and the answer is a resounding ‘yip’. With a decent selection of beer, some of which are brewed on site, and some darn tasty pub grub on offer, this is a down to earth family pub that’s easy going and welcoming. When out group arrived, we were too big to fit into any tables on the ground floor, so were escorted upstairs where we had the place to ourselves for a wee while. Despite this, service was not effected and it was actually quite nice to have a bit of quiet time! Good service. Good beer. Good food. Good all round.

Interior is nice, but the drinks and food is not the best. Beer is quite cheap, but overall it lacks some charm. Wouldn’t go back, there are better options in the area. Also the terrace is just overlooking the street, not very nice.

The Bull underwent complete renovation a while ago and is now back in business… and I like what they’ve done to the place. A friend of mine took me here the other day — he’d been raving about it for a while and I can now see why: they have their own micro-brewery here and it really adds a lot of charme to this place. What made me like this place even more, was the really nice and down-to-earth attitude of our waiter: he took time to walk us through the beers on offer, explaining each and one of them! My first pint was some ginger-flavoured beer, which I have to admit I wasn’t quite a fan of. The next one — Hops & Mops — was much better — I particularly liked the name of this one. The food here is also quite nice. We’ve had the chicken wings, which came with blue-cheese dressing.(Note: 8 wings is plenty for two people!). As they have a changing menu, I’d recommend having a look at the specials During my visit I had grilled haloumi cheese on ptitim(Israeli couscous). They have board-games lying around, so you should come here with a few friends and hang out for a few hours!

The Bull on North Hill is a well-appointed, grownup pub with a sophisticated menu and a welcoming feel about it. Its current incarnation has been set up by Dan Fox, former manager of The White Horse at Parsons Green which is why it’s no surprise then that at the core of The Bull’s offering is high quality beer. Most of the ales on offer are brewed on the premises by The London Brewing Company, and the range they make will have something to suit all tastes. Additionally, the fridges are stocked with an excellent range of beers from craft breweries around the world. Additionally, there’s a regular programme of events taking place at The Bull some beer focussed, such as meet the brewer events, tastings, and learn to brew days. There’s also a semi-regular pop up opera event held there, and various evening specials like Wings Night on Wednesdays. Whilst holding a beer focus, The Bull does an excellent job of avoiding being SOLELY about the beer, so is a very welcoming environment for all.

I didn’t even know they actually brewed beer on the premises before I had agreed to come here for a Saturday lunch with friends. It was a great bonus and we worked our way through the ‘home brew’ as the afternoon went on and swiftly turned into early evening… so much for a leisurely afternoon lunch with friends… This is a fantastically laid back pub with a good selection of beers, there are games like Scrabble, Connect Four, Chess(loads of others) for those of you wanting to waste away the afternoon here, and they are very child friendly — not that I have any, I was with people who had one of the little blighters, and she had a great time :) The stand-out bit of this Saturday afternoon experience for me though was the fish and chips they served me: The BEST battered cod, ever! They use their own beer brewed on site in the batter, maybe that’s the key to the best batter I have ever had on my fish. I looked across at my friend’s plate of Pork Belly… damn that looked fine too!

Nice but pricey. Def more restaurant than pub or bar.
