Good selection of beers. Fair prices. Chill location on a Saturday afternoon. There’s a funny house cat laying about.

In Germany this would be called a Kneipe. The décor is pretty drab, and the beer garden just a small concrete square outside for smokers. The beer selection is OK, but nothing to stand out. If you hate the yuppification of London pubs this might be for you, but I am finding it difficult to find anything particularly great to say about it. I guess one real positive is that this has remained a local’s hangout.

The Hare is a really good, unpretentious place to see some live Jazz on a Sunday. If you take the time to stroll down Hackney’s Cambridge Heath Rd. of a night time, you will quickly learn that it is full of surprises. There are loads of little places that you can find good music with relatively small crowds but a lot of energy, and this is a perfect example. Besides the live Jazz on a Sunday, the Hare is a decent place to get a drink any day of the week. It is by no means a classy establishment, but it has a certain charm in its small community nature. There is a nice, very urban, beer garden that backs on to the train tracks. I really like the urban grittiness of this place, and its down to earth nature.
