The Montcalm Brewery London City

I would love to actually write a review o the Brewery location, as that was where my stay was booked to be, but I cannot. Upon arrival and after paying my car from Heathrow, waiting in line for checkin… the desk clerk informed me we were not actually staying there. we were moved to the M by Montcalm Shoreditch location. «Didnt anyone notify you?» Well gee, lets just pause there for a moment… if someone had notified me would I be standing here in front of you asking for my room?

The one star is for the proximity to the business centers. The rest is well… The hotel definition of superficial rip off. 1 st day out of 3 day stay: keeping up appearances. The room looks nice but you need a staff member to show the way to get it… Fresh fruits, water chocolate. wow…
Overnight the bathroom upstairs has a leak. Plick plock. No spare room to move too an not a great night of sleep.
Breakfast for £25 for a sub standard sausages bacon and beans from tesco really? By the way where is my black pudding?
Day 2 and day 3 just chocolates… The bathtub knob to evacuate the water is broken… Ah well Diy themed hotel that’s a first. Anyway I try to sleep as I have to wake up at 4am… The air on units starts to make noise like you would not believe… So I’m writing this review.
To conclude, staff is polite an helpful but the business model is tired and the hotel looks like aging badly.
My advice stay there only if you really must be close to your business otherwise a bnb somewhere else in London is preferable. Good night.

Really fabulous hotel! It is a bit of a maze to get around but the staff were so helpful. One took me to my room and carried my luggage then showed me the best way to get in and out to my room.
All staff were really friendly and polite and couldn’t be more keen to help.
Bed was so comfortable too!

Cons:
–I had contacted the hotel to say my stay was for my birthday and requested recommendations for nearby restaurants and clubs. It looks like other travelers got treats for their birthday stays. Maybe this is random but I felt left out.
–Drain was broken so the tub was flooded
— My room was a bit smaller than I expected. Since it was a short stay, I didn’t mind the slight claustrophobia.
Overall it is a great property and I would still come back or recommend it. However, I decided to book my stay in London next weekend at a different property.

Luxury, comfort, super friendly staff.
Upgraded us too as we were on a mini-​moon!
Centred between Moorgate and Barbican underground, giving easy access to anywhere.
Delighted we picked this hotel and will return.

Upon arrival me and my collegue were welcomed by the receptionists perfectly. A thorough and clear explanation was given about the room, the hotel’s facilities and dinner and breakfast times. I was guided to my room by one of the assistants perfectly and didn’t have to carry the luggage myself. Once again perfect. The room was pretty tidy and comfortable. It had everything I needed. Chargers for my mobile phone, Wifi, a safe, ironing facility, TV, nice bathroom and whatnot. Free champagne and chocolate. So far so good people. Had to hurry to go the centre of London and my collegue was already waiting for me in the lobby. Although the assistant perfectly explained to me how to get there earlier, my brains probably weren’t decompressed yet from the flight we had earlier. I got lost and eventually found my way to the lobby. It was a maze to say the least. Had to take an elevator, walk around a corner… When we returned to hotel same thing. Gave myself a nice little tour through the entire building. I finally arrived and definitely needed a shower. When I finally managed to decypher how the shower worked, I had to reach out for the cold button through a hot rain shower. Of course I could have done a little bit more research before entering this mission, but yo. I’m here to relax. Things could have been a little bit less confusing. Still, overall I’ve had a very pleasant stay. But it could have been so much better.

I have stayed at the Montcalm twice, and both times were lovely. They really know how to take care of their guests, and the rooms are very clean & comfortable. This most recent time, there was a bit of a. I’ll say an «electrical mishap» in my room. The staff and hotel manager were so apologetic and accommodating, and they left me no reason to not want to continue to come back to this hotel when I’m in London. I love staying here and highly recommend it.

I have just had the pleasure of staying here for a week while in London on business. The hotel is in a good location close to Moorgate and Bank tube station, it’s very clean and the staff ensure you are taken care of.
I asked for a bigger room at reception when checking in (I was told the standard room is small) and the girl behind the desk went out of her way to ensure she found me a good room. My room was a ‘club room’ and was plenty big enough.
The room was clean, included daily fresh fruit, a bottle of water, a few snacks as well as high end toiletries in the bathroom. I was also impressed that Sky Sports 1,2,3 and 4 are available to watch on the room T. V as this came in handy for watching a few midweek games.
The hotel reminded me of the film The Labyrinth as the corridors are like a maze and finding your room can be difficult (especially after a few drinks at the nearby Amber Bar). A further negative is the noise at the front of the hotel, if there is a function on or you are trying to get an early night you are best asking for a room at the rear or overlooking the courtyard as the noise was loud on a couple of occasions up until about midnight.
The hotel furnishing is of a high class and the restaurant is very swanky. There is also another restaurant which is part of the hotel called the Jugged Hare — if you want to eat here be sure to pre book your table hours in advance and note that for a 3 course meal you will be paying in excess of £40−50.
The hotel has a sauna and steam room in the basement as well as a gym. The latter is small but has free weights up to 20kg, a treadmill and a cross trainer.
I would definately recommend this hotel because despite some negatives, the bed is the comfiest I have ever slept on, the staff are extremely helpful, the place is very classy without being prohibitively so, and it’s the best hotel I have stayed in so far in that area.

What a beautiful hotel! What a friendly atmosphere. After living in London for over 13 years and coming back to London for a visit, I decided to go posh rather than camping on my mates couches.
I’m very much used to the typical British hospitality… non existent. (no offence London, you know I love and miss you).
But I found this hotel to be a super friendly atmosphere. I booked an extra day here, and didn’t realise I booked for the wrong hotel address. They fixed my error easily without hassle. I come home to check my bank account to see if they double charged me. When I make this kind of mistake, I usually get double charged and spend a month to fix it. But this was not the case. It was fixed correctly the first time. I appreciate that!
The rooms are just lovely! And a great value for money. Lets face it, it’s london. You wouldn’t say that much money spending the night in a mold infested B&B. For a few more quid, you can live in luxury.
But the bonus is the showers! Luckily there is a direction guide on how to operate them. But wow! I haven’t had such a great shower in years. When I eventually move back to London, i’ll see if they can rent out their showers. je je.
And another bonus. After living in the Canary Islands for 6 months, and not having decent apples during that time. I was craving fruit. And when I got to the hotel after midnight from my flight… what do I see??? A big bowl of gorgeous big red apples. I asked if I can buy one… lady said you can have 2. No charge. I devoured them like a child eating chocolate. They were yum!
PS: free wifi! No hassle, no connection problems. Just turn your machine on and whaalaa!

I can look past the fact that after a few cocktails at the Jugged Hare next door I couldn’t actually navigate my way back to my room, only because the concierge explained when we first arrived that the hotel was an old brewery, not a traditional setting for a hotel. Also because this hotel was just beautiful from the moment we arrived in the lobby. The staff behind the desk are super-​friendly and they have a member of staff waiting to show you to your room and explain all of its’ features.
We lucked out and had a corner rooms with 180 degree views of the cobblestone streets outside, and the room was small-​ish but perfect for our one night retreat.
There was a real attention to detail that I noticed right from the time we walked in — the Montcalm logo and name is embossed on everything from the shower tray to the sink faucet. No do-​not-​disturb signs here — everything is pretty modern and you press a button to alert staff not to come a’ knockin. Another small but noticed detail was the fresh lavender scent that was emitted from a little device on the desk — it was such a soothing scent to return to after a day spent wandering the city. The robes and slippers helped a bit, too. The Elemis shower products were lovely and the fact that there was conditioner really made me happy as I’ve noticed many hotels omit this detail these days. The combination of the conditioner and the surprisingly good Babyliss hairdryer (it was maybe the best I’ve ever used-​ever) leads me to believe that a lady must be behind the inner-​workings of this hotel. The last little thing I should mention is that there was a platter of fruit and bottle of water delivered to our room shortly after arrival that we happily shoved in our bags for when we felt a bit peckish on our day out.
Maybe this wasn’t what you were looking for in a review, but all of this stuff made me want to return ASAP.
I should also mention that this area is being built up as a bit of a destination — you don’t actually need to leave the hotel to get to the restaurant and brewery — and they have plans to add more as far as I know. It’s very convenient to get the tube– you can go from Barbican or other nearby stations.
All in all, great place to stay.

Great hotel in London. Good value, reasonable price, very friendly staff. Nice rooms, very clean, comfortable beds.

I’m not going to be comparing this to new hotels because it isn’t. It has the amenities of new hotels and the issues of old hotels. There are 5 – 6 entrances, and YES it is a maze. You cannot just walk into any old entrance and hope to make it to your room. That is what it means to stay at an old hotel. They aren’t going to knock down all the walls and redo the interior because it would take away from the charm of the place.
The rooms are small but designed along modern lines. Very clean dark wood furniture. Small but luxurious bathroom. IPod docking station on the vanity. Small but new TV. Also, we requested a late check-​out till 2pm which they accommodated graciously (even though that is incredibly late). The cleaning staff were all soft-​spoken and gracious.
The hotel is conveniently located a short walk from the Marble Arch tube station. Also, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are walkable.
If you like old hotels with a classic lobby, beautiful exterior, and convenient location, I would recommend the Montcalm.

A fine London hotel. Not much by the way of complimentary stuff, definitely more on the high end. I was there for a whole week. The bed was comfortable, the staff was friendly and helpful… walking distance from a few different tube stops which made getting around London easy.

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, but every time I think of the maze-​like set up for getting to my room, I can’t do it.
For some reason, there is not actual THIRD FLOOR at this hotel. I don’t know what it is, but even though I had a room with a 3 on it, I had to go around the first and second floor. It was a nightmare and it took too long. Even the elevator goes from 2^nd to 4^th floor! I don’t get it.
The staff was very friendly and attentive, although the concierge wasn’t that great– all the tube directions he gave me were longer than what the tube people told me once I got to the stations.
The location is not ideal, but the hotel has a boutique, 5 star feel to it and it was a decent price (I got a good deal online). Close to Barbican station so at least you can get into other parts of the city easily.
Would consider it again, but not stay on that non-​existent third floor.

This hotel had been open for about 3 weeks by the time we arrived in London. Reviews on other websites kind of ripped this hotel apart but it was all due to opening up issues. I assure you when we arrived, we were not only impressed but loved our room, the location, the very «vegas» like bathroom… not in size but in style and décor. Our bed was sooo comfortable it made getting over jetlag very easy. It is close to 2 tube stations and most cab drivers know exactly where it is because the Brewery part is a venue where they have concerts and while we were there, the Heavy Metal awards… It is only a few blocks away from St Paul’s Cathedral and that end of the trouist section. Lastly I dream about the delicious blueberry pancakes they serve in the restuarant, how I wish I could get them fed ex-​ed to me!
