The Old Kings Head is one of those classic pubs that remains classic, even as the area changes around it. This is not a chic place or a place looking to attract anyone but locals. Ignore the fact that it’s in the middle of the city and there aren’t really any locals, people still come, fresh from work, looking for a cheap drink and a good place to sit. And they find it here. I imagine in the colder months, this place is filled with people post 4pm. I came during one of London’s first beautiful days of the spring season and the crowd was poured out onto the street, drinking, smiling, having a good time. You won’t find tourists here, as it’s down a side street that’s not near anything else they’d travel to. And that’s a good thing. This is a classic London pub and I imagine it will stay that way forever.

Tourists don’t come to pubs like The Old Kings Head. And that’s a good thing. Tucked away in a side street, people spill out onto the pavement in the warmer evenings and just have a chat with friends. It’s not a place to be seen(a relief, as we know what this area can be like), but somewhere to enjoy a few drinks, perhaps before heading elsewhere. Inside it’s a traditional East London pub; wooden, sport on TV and some friendly older female bar staff. The type of lady that was confused by my ordering of a ‘lager top’. She might have even mocked me, but I’m ok with that. The outside is unique — green tiles and hanging flowers. It’s got a nice feel to it this place, especially in the summer where the street is full of drinkers from here and the bar over the road.

I can’t believe i don’t have a review for this place being that I have at least 2 beers here every friday before moving on to greener pastures. This place is a nice local for me. We know the bar managers, and mostly come here when its nice outside and stand drinking in the streets. Really just one of the typical London pubs that are hard to review cause their just so similar to the one down the road, but the people who work here are really nice. Bogs: only one for the girls, and one for the boys. When croweded, be prepared to find a bush!
