The Tipperary

Kinda disappointing, staff really could give a. you know. But nice location, stopped by because it was raining. If it’s not, walk on.

I was looking for a quick bite and came across The Tipperary. Great little pub inside… charming, full of characters, and one of those nice little places I enjoy finding when I’m traveling.
The barmaid was as kind as can be and offered up some good suggestions. It was not the best fish and chips that I’ve ever had, but certainly made better by the environment. I’d recommend it for a low-​key stopover… just sit back and take it in.

While the atmosphere was mostly older men that seemed to know each other, my friend and I enjoyed a nice pint. Probably the best poorer pint of Guinness I have had in Ireland. Maybe not a good spot for night out but if you fancy a pint in the area, a great place to stop in. They also had a long list of whiskeys but we did not try them.

A personal highlight of London for me was coming to this place (twice). This place claims to be the oldest pub in London and it does have that old time feel to it. I did not try the food, however I can say that there menu is a nice size and all the stuff looks good from what I saw. Just came and had some beer (about 10 – 15 of London finest beer). People there were great and just honestly made my day (even gave me a pin as a keepsake from the Tipperary). Overall you must come to this pub while in London.

The first Irish bar outside of Ireland. A good place to stop if you craving some Irish feel. Really small so not recommended if you have more the 4 people, it’s mostly standing room. Good place for a quick pint.

They say it’s the oldest Irish Bar in London… who can argue effectively against that? All I can say is that it’s a fun place for a pint. If you are here, don’t miss the Cheshire Cheese across the way.

Very small pub downstairs, I did not wander up. Friendly service & decent selection of draft beers. Well worth a stop in for a pint or 2.

Nice pub but I am not that deeply impressed. You can do far better guys you can renew your website and give your menu a little boost by adding more things. However, the overall feel was great and I may come again if I am near.

Good for a quick pint and not much else. There’s plenty of other much nicer pubs in the area to stop at and spend some time. Pretty dingy interior as well. The food menu was not good. We looked at the menu, pounded our pint and left. Also, there was a bunch of floaters (don’t want to know what they were) in both mine and my wife’s pint. Will not be back.

A very below average pub.
We only come here because it’s over the road from Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, which was randomly closed because of a power failure. If you do find yourself stood outside this pub thinking of going in, just turn around and walk over the road to the far superior, and cheaper, Cheese.
We were the only people in here at gone 5pm on a weekday. It seems the local office crowd shun this place too. I noticed two different (Irish) couples wander in here, guidebook in hand, look around and walk out again. They really must be selling the ‘oldest Irish pub in London’ angle quite hard (it’s written all over the outside too).
Everything was dingy. Including the surly woman behind the bar.

I had to go as an Irish lass so I could see the oldest Irish pub in London. The mosaic shamrocks on the floor are worth the visit alone in my book. I really liked it but felt that the staff weren’t pleased with my crowd as we came in. I think it was because it was very quiet inside and we were on pub 4 of a pub crawl so we were bringing the bustle into the joint.
I particularly like the «A Christmas Story» style lamp on the far left end of the bar. It is pretty fantastic and the beer was great too. I give this a definite «must see» if you are in the neighborhood as it is so rich in history. Please note, however, that at 10:56, you have missed last call… lol. We found out the hard way and went home with one less pint in our bellies.

This place is N.A.R.R.O.W. Maybe it’s because this is the «oldest Irish pub in London» and people back then were the size of my thigh. But in spite of this I love it anyway. It definitely has that classic, old pub feel. Everything just looks like it’s been frozen in a time capsule and recently opened, kinda like the club in Smooth Criminal AFTER MJ started dancing. Its also run by a really lovely couple who go out of their way to accommodate you.

«The Oldest Irish Pub In London.» Apparently it hasn’t been contested and sure am not about to deny them this. The owners are very cool and love their regulars. It takes all of a pint and a short chat to become a regular. They’ll remember your name (most times) and be very friendly and engaging.
There are two floors, the ground floor and an upstairs. The ground floor bar is very tightly packed and on a busy night, can be tough to get to the bar. I like the upstairs cause there is plenty of seating, a bar and more general room.
This place was a great starting point for St. Patrick’s Day. Definitely packed, but worth getting in a couple pints of the black stuff before terrorizing the rest of Fleet Street.

This pub is one of my Dads favourites, not to say its a Dad’s pub but its kinda old school. I like it here, the owners are really sweet, and they even seem to remember regulars names and their ‘usuals’. Which is really rare in Central London!
It’s the type of place that its trying to be something its not, it’s not trying to fit into the digital age, and it doesn’t charge stupid prices. It’s obviously very loved, as most people seem to know each other in here, and they do look at you abit when you walk in, but thats fine it didnt make me feel uncomfortable one bit.
Take your dad here. Yay!

With the tourists walking past it seems a good idea to scream about your history if your a pub on Fleet Street. However the claim is the first to stock Guinness in London. Impressed I was, until I realise they meant in bottles, although draught was to follow later and they claim a first on that one too.
This pub can be spilt into two distinct areas, one is the downstairs bar which looks very Irish to me, but sometimes misses the old men sitting at the bar. You have to sit at the bar here, as it is one shop unit wide and therefore there is not really anywhere else to sit. If not conversation, then the TV at the end of the bar is the focal room of the long narrow room.
Upstairs is the restaurant. The food here is pretty good pubgrub. I have been a couple of times and had a lovely Lamb Shank on one visit for around £7.50 with all the trimmings, it is gorgeous. Seating is limited to around 20 diners so you might not be impressed at the lack of space if in a group, but at least the Guinness is good.
