Oh Leon, you don’t know what you’re missing. This place is fabulous. In its own very special way. Brightly lit. The lovely landlady shuts down the drunken bankers who stumble in. There’s a random jukebox which plays anything you want… and randomly plays anything(Elvis, Metallica, Daft Punk) when no one’s playing. Cheap as chips. Quiet and you can hear yourself think. The Christmas decorations, I swear, are left over from the Coronation. It’s brilliant, and like stepping into rural Britain ca 1958. It’s lovely… if you want to talk. OK, yeah, it’s not awe-inspiring, but it fit my needs tonight. I could go back… if I wanted to play Risk or have a(nother) evening meeting…

Entering Whitesmiths is like entering someone’s living room. It is as basic a pub I have seen. You can get drinks here, they are cheap, there is a garden and you can purchase food. Lizzie and I both had toasted sandwiches. They were basic with a token salad garnish yet undeniably tasty in a home-cooked way. There really isn’t anything to recommend, but I also can’t claim anything as bad in The Whitesmiths Arms. I was there at 12:30 in the afternoon and the patrons who looked decidedly local aged between 40 – 80 inspired not an ounce of atmosphere. Although not bad a pub, there is little chance of me coming back.
