Just a quickie but we’re keeping it clean. And by it, I mean your sheets, duvets, and other things too big to deal with at home. As far as your mind, well there is nothing anyone can do about that. Switching from the US, where I had a choice of washing machines and dryers in the basement of whatever building I lived in, to the UK, with its mini-combo washer-dryers in the kitchen was a bit of a shock. Still, for your every day clothes, those mini-things are fine and hanging things up to dry wasn’t a huge deal. But what to do when you have half a dozen towels and two sets of bedding to get through? Time to hunt down that elusive Laundromat. I’ve heard horror stories of people putting in clothes and getting them out covered in grease or worse due to whatever the previous users had dumped in there. And with the prospect of putting my new(and very expensive) duvet covers in there I was more than a little nervous. However, the Tower Bridge Laundrette is nearly spotlessly clean with sparkling machines and clothes neatly folded and stacked for collection. Yep, this place offers both DIY or fully serviced washes in case you can’t be arsed to do your own laundry. Single load washers cost £3.80 and double load ones a full £5. A bit exxy but given you can put 2 weeks worth of clothes easily into a double it’s not bad. The driers cost £1 for every 12 minutes and I found that after 20 mins on high heat my sheets were perfect. For towels I’d recommend around 30 mins though but they come out really fluffy! I’m not sure what a service wash costs but I’d guess somewhere around double the self-service. Be warned, if you leave your stuff in the machines and they have to take it out cause people are waiting, you will be charged a fee to redeem them. This helps keep things moving as I imagine a massive pet peeve would be to be sitting there ready to do your wash and some muppet has forgotten all about their clothes. All in all, an excellent option for those large housekeeping washes!
