University College Hospital

Quite odd to review an A&E/hospital but thought I’d give credit where it’s due (as I’ve had a really bad experience at an A&E before so this place deserves some praise!).
One little complaint but I still won’t remove a star from my review because the care REALLY made up for it but I came here under a suspected stroke, which we told the front desk. I still waited in the waiting room as people with finger injuries went in ahead of me. I passed out on my boyfriend’s shoulder (one of my symptoms!) during the 40 minute wait. 40 minutes is a pretty long wait for suspected stroke but they probably see a lot of people coming in with ‘major’ concerns in order to jump the queue.
Regardless, once I was able to speak to someone, I was quickly swept away in a wheelchair, found a bed in the stroke unit (even though they ruled out stroke), and looked after extremely well! They even offered my mom coffee after she came in directly from a long haul flight from America. The staff really made this place incredible.

This is one of the worst Hospital ever! I went in at 10pm as I was down with stomach flu, fever and diarrhoea. I was presented with a rude nurse who was not only indifferent to my plight but sarcastically commented on my case being «not severe enough».
I was then asked to go to the out-​patient clinic and told that the waiting time would last approximately 2 and a half hours. Despite the bad attitude given earlier, I made a decision to stay on due to the severity of my pain. The 2 and a half hours wait escalated into a whole 5 hours and 40 minutes long and excruciating wait which resulted in a combination of the earlier symptoms and additional gastric discomfort.
Sensing a lack of movement in the queue system, I approached the counter staff to find out what was going on and to inform him that a nurse had told me about two hours ago that I was next in line to see the doctor. I was appalled to learn that there were no doctors present at that point and in fact, there hadn’t been one for almost two hours. Given that it was not a matter of mere minutes, I felt that the staff could have informed the patients who were waiting for their turn so that they could make alternative arrangements — especially since it was already so late into the night.
Having waited at the clinic for almost 6 hours and not having an indication of when I could possibly attain medical attention, I decided to leave the clinic at 4.30am. I am utterly disappointed by the lack of professionalism displayed by the hospital — leaving me with additional gastric discomfort, untreated food poisoning symptoms and a very heavy heart not knowing how many other patients were going to suffer similar fate as I have.

This is a review of the care we received during the delivery of our beautiful baby girl. From receptionist, to midwife, to birth centre midwife, to labour ward midwife, to anaesthetist, to doctor, to surgeon and finally recovery ward staff, they were amazing.
Although the birth was not as straight forward as we had hoped, we were in the hands and at the mercy of the hospital staff and it turns out we could not have been in any better place.
Thank you all so much for the attention, professionalism and generally for being human, we will be back for the second… and maybe third :)

Lets face it, London hospitals can be a bit of a nightmare… to look at… old, out of date, grubby, scary… but hey! ULCH is actually not a bad one! I guess it’s relatively new (opened in 2005) so therefore more up to date, clean and well laid out.
Would obviously not recommend a trip here unless you need to, but if you do need a hospital, I’d pick this one!

I must say I was rather impressed by this hospital a far departure from the usual sad NHS hospitals I have been familiar with. You can check in as though going for a flight in the reception and then before you know it you are sitting in a waiting room which is immaculately clean with staff that are helpful and caring. Downside? Only the long waiting time for A and E (3 hours) but at least the staff were nice :)

Accueil NIckel, rapide, pro et très rassurant, de plus rien a payer pour els urgences. Les locaux sont neuf, bien équipés et extrêmement propres Le personnel soignant est au petits soins. Alors pourquoi 2 étoiles: les soins !! Examen rapide pas poussé, pour se voir répondre: on né peux rien faire mais si ça continue revenez Un peu limite. Retour en France: une réponse claire rapide et simple après un simple examen.

I will never forget seeing my baby for the first time on the screen. It made me cry and laugh at the same time. Will cherish the pictures forever. Thanks

Having experienced a number of hospitals with my son, I have nothing but good things to say about UCLH. My son has been seeing doctors there for a couple of years, and went in between Christmas and New Year 2009, for an operation. The hospital is clean, well managed and operated, and the nursing staff are wonderful. I am a very critical and difficult-​to-​please mother of a patient, and I could find nothing to criticise. We have now experienced a number of the hospital’s services and the attitude of the staff, their whole ethic seems to be of taking responsibility for their work and their patients… right through from the security staff to the nurses and doctors.
I highly recommend the hospital, and think it should be a model for other hospitals to follow.

This one time I was out at bar fly and enjoying some live music and booze when i turned around to my friend Tara Lee, I must have pulled some funny face because at that moment she dropped her glass directly on my foot. Ouch!
with glass in my foot and the staff a little concerned I was popped in a taxi and sent here. After 45 minutes I was seen had glass removed and 2 stitches popped in my foot. It really didn’t even hurt that much but that might have been the vodka in my system!
I jumped back in a taxi and went right back to the party. All in all a little odd on a night out but, hey I have a cool story to go with my somewhat bad-​ass scar on my foot.

Like what I imagine an American hospital to be like. Giant, sparkling clean, no overcrowding, super helpful and professional doctors and nurses. Definitely the place to head if you’re feeling poorly. And all for free. Long live the NHS.

I’ll second the previous reviewer in saying that University College Hospital (UCH) is a very efficient hospital. I’ve been there twice, once for an x-​ray and another time for a blood test, and both times I got out within the hour. This is despite the huge queues that the blood tests have (which is compensated by a large number of nurses).
The reception staff were very attentive and courteous when dealing with my x-​ray report as I needed it urgently for a requested medical report. I got a CD and the report itself, which is certainly a plus.
It’s probably worth it to just take a look at the place if you’re in the area. The place itself is quite impressive, both in terms of size and the modern décor.

I accompanied my friend here one Saturday night a couple of years ago. We waited in the A&E room for ages during which time a drunk couple walked in, the guy with a bloody hand and a girl all dressed up for the night with blood pouring down her face screaming that she couldn’t see. It was as you would expect of an A&E room I guess extremely dramatic. I felt like I was in a soap.
It was midnight before friend was seen to but the staff were quite nice to her when they did see her and wrote her a prescription. I had almost fallen asleep before she came out.

Well I hate coming here but then again besides doctors who get paid to go there, who likes going to the hospital. It is never a good situation either you are ill or someone you know is ill. I have been to the ER twice for myself and taken someone once as well as have been sent here to have blood drawn twice. It has the usual hospital art, don’t know why its there, just for decoration I guess, never really makes me feel any better. I think there is a general rule that to work in a hospital you have to be grumpy. If you have a jolly disposition then I think you may not be allowed to work there. I have heard this is one of the better hospitals in London. The wait time for the ER was not that long once you get passed the stupid questions from the receptionists behind the glass shield (I would be too if I was exposed to germs like that on a daily basis). If you are going to get your blood drawn go in the midmorning after the before work rush, you will still be in for a long wait. You are ushered around like cattle, before you are called into a room filled with more people having their blood drawn, so much for privacy on the NHS. I like a nurse who can get my vain in one go, not poke me and fish around until she gets it, I usually get the latter when I go here. As far as hospitals go I guess it will do but stay healthy and try and avoid it if you can.
