Waitrose

So I’m not especially in the habit of reviewing chains, or supermarkets, actually, for that matter. But I was quite impressed by this Waitrose on Marylebone High St. **Disclaimer** this review is only about the «order to collect counter,» no I didn’t swan around the aisles buying expensive olives and ciabatta that Waitrose is famous for.
I ordered something from John Lewis and opted to collect it from here since it’s near to work. I was really impressed with the communication beforehand — I rang to check that it was still there (I was late to collect it) and the lady on the phone was helpful and quick to inform. When I arrived, it was the same lady at the counter but she was on the phone to another customer so I had to wait a few minutes. She was terribly apologetic afterwards for keeping me waiting, which was a) really unnecessary but b) really quite sweet. She found my package and off I went on my merry way. I got a «have a nice evening» from about three staff on the way out. That definitely isn’t normal supermarket behaviour. So it deserves a good review. I like this supermarket and yes I might even come back for some olives and ciabatta if I’m in a luxe kind of mood.

Second things: when you buy fresh products at Waitrose it’s only 2 or 3 days for consuming

I just stopped in briefly to pick up some band-​aids for my increasingly nagging blister, but was pleasantly surprised to see that even this downtown supermarket stocked the specialty back-​of-​heel blister pad that I hadn’t even expected to find. The queues were well-​managed and I was out of there in a jiffy. The staff were friendly so far as I interacted with them. A pleasant experience all around.

I loved the quality of the fruit and produce, during my London vacation. The selection was exceptional and walking distance from the flat we stayed at in Marylebone. The prices of the wines was good, and they had a good variety of high quality cheeses, quality meat, and homemade (tasted that way) bread. I enjoyed the crumpets.

A pretty nice Waitrose. Normal selection, good location. When I was in here they had free samples on a really dank blue cheese, so that gets ‘em four stars. The beer range is average, whereas some Waitrose stores have really good beers to offer. Worth visiting.

Waitrose est une chaîné de supermarchés plutôt haut de gamme qui rappelle Whole Foods Market aux US et Monop’ (mais en mieux) en France.
Dans le quartier plutôt chich de Marylebone, il est significatif de voir les longues queues des cadres qui rentrent du boulot le soir et passent chercher leur dîner chez Waitrose, pendant que le Tesco Express d’à côté est presque vide…
Longues queues donc, mais très rapide grâce à un système très efficace de répartition d’une file d’attente unique entre 15 caisses express.
Waitrose propose beaucoup de produits frais: légumes, fruits, viandes, poissons, fromages plus un rayon de plats cuisinés chauds. Ajoutez à cela les salades, sandwiches et soupes qu’ont trouvent partout en Angleterre et vous avez vraiment de quoi repartir avec votre dîner du soir ! :-)
Personnel nombreux et très serviables, produits de qualité, prix qui restent raisonnables: comme pour Monoprix à Paris, un Waitrose apporte une vraie plus-​value et qualité de vie à un quartier quand il s’installe !

I absolutely love visiting grocery stores, especially when I’m abroad. Waitrose has had a special place in my heart since I first visited one of these posh grocery stores almost 10 years ago.
I troll the aisles in search of the most bizarre products I can find like Duchy Originals Sherbet Lemons (who can resist their natural lemon flavour and fizzy sherbet centre?!)
Because the British never cease to impress impress me with their dairy products I stood in front of the cold case at Waitrose and quizzed my tour guide on the difference between pouring cream, single cream, double cream, extra double thick cream, clotted cream…
This Waitrose location is a serviceable neighborhood shop but far from impressive, especially when compared to some of their larger stores.

I don’t shop in Waitrose very much. Mainly because there isn’t one in Charlton (which isn’t unsurprising really) but also because IT’S BLOODY EXPENSIVE.
But, a quick stroll around meant I got everything I needed to buy. Including very yummy apple and pear juice which quashed my hangover as I drank half of it walking around the shop — the checkout man wasn’t impressed.
But, their fish counter deserves a special mention. Gigantic scallops (with the roe on) and fresh looking (and as it turns out, tasty) fish of just about any variety. Their five stars is going towards that fish counter. It was very impressive indeed (this is mostly in comparison to the one at my local Asda, but still).
I’m weird about seafood. That’s why we were cooking fish. But, at £5.50 for four fillets of trout, that tasted wonderful, I might just be back. It’s not that expensive after all. And it was worth every penny.

Not sure if miss the times back in good old London, but i loved to go shopping there. Friendly staff, good quality and always something new to try. I wish I had a waitrose around my corner these days

Oh my how I do love shopping at this store — in fact at most of Waitrose stores. Lots of good food especially luverly cheeses and breads and wines. It’s so great to be able to get pure English and French butter, yoghurt, and cakes and biscuits that are not stuffed with sugar.
Of course there are the usual tinned and packaged goodies but these I can buy and bring back to use Stateside where it is difficult to find anything that has not been completely chemicalized, homeogonized and gmo’d.
Even the coffee has wonderful nose-​sniffing aromas although fresh ground coffee at Wholefoods does the same!
The range of wines at Waitrose is equally interesting and very drinkable.
So be sure to stock up when you go (not Wines, verboten at Customs) — I take spare luggage to fill with chocolate and biscuits and sweets and cheese and…
Wish I could bring some meat and fish back but that really is a no. no!

Lets face it Waitrose has the best food around. Period.
And with this waitrose (as I mentioned in previous reviews) the bonus you get aound this particular branch is the added free A listers you get to bump into.
I bumped into Orlando Bloom here a few days ago, but others I’ve seen in the area — Keira Knightly and Jack Black! — maybe I should write my celebrity spottings around more attractions in London! I tend to see a few!
But anyway — waitrose rocks — especially the cappuccino muffins — awesome.

This store has a really good selection of the usual household produce, they support a lot of British producers and the quality of their food is very good.
It is more expensive than other high street supermarkets, but most of the time you get what you pay for. There is a deli, meat counter, fish counter, good selection of spices.
They re-​designed the store a while ago and I am not sure that it improved it really, the queues can go half way around the store which can be very off-​putting, however, they do move fast.

I used to eat prawns. Used to. After my experience from this Waitrose, I will never eat prawns again.
One day, on my way to work I picked up a prawn salad sandwich and a bag of Walkers crisps. Seven hours later I was struck with the worst food poisoning I have ever had. I vomited for seventeen hours straight until my boyfriend forced me to go to hospital, where they put a drip in my arm. I spent three days in hospital for that bloody prawn salad sandwich and ever since then I’ve vowed never to eat anything from Waitrose again.
This used to be my go-​to supermarket when I lived down the street on Weymouth. I’d run into Liam and Noël Gallagher occasionally in there, too.
If you have to shop here, I wouldn’t recommend the seafood.

I used to go to the Sainsbury’s all the way on Edgware Road until I discovered the Waitrose on the Marylebone High Street. Yes, expensive, but definitely saved the strain on my arms struggling back to Marylebone Road with an armful of groceries!
I really liked their ready-​made frozen meals. My personal favorite was the light mac & cheese. Cheese tasted like it was real instead of some kind of Velveeta crap. This Waitrose is always very well-​stocked and clean. I made curry a lot when I lived in London, and I was always happy that Waitrose had every Patak’s sauce you can think of. Plus a great meat aisle with fresh free-​range chicken breasts and tons more.
Also, the wine section! Tons of different kinds of wine and liquor from every country imaginable and for every budget. Plus, they have people manning the wine section so that you can easily ask for help if you need a suggestion.
The only reason I deduct a star is because of the price. It is much higher than say, Sainsbury’s, but the quality is better.

Quintessentially British the foochain love their business. So important an element if one is looking for customer service and a long-​term relationship with the business market.
A unique spread of cuisines and dishes from different cultures and continents, Waitrose offers a professional catering service to all. For the festive season they have a wide choice for those special days, and at affordable cost.
I enjoy shopping at the Marylebone High street chain because of the genteel service and efficiency. Brand excellent.

Waitrose is a very good retailer and supermarket which supports British farmers. The food is of a high quality and the range is good. The Marylebone High Street branch was redesigned in the last 2 years and now caters very much towards the more upmarket Waitrose shopper and those wanting something different for their lunch. Not as easy to navigate as a ‘standard’ Waitrose and the queues can be very long at lunchtime. But good food nonetheless.

I’ve shopped here only twice, but thoroughly enjoyed it. It does indeed strike me as more of a high-​end market than a supermarket. I was especially impressed with the range of cheeses, and of fruit and veg. The prices are a bit high, but not shocking, and the quality is worth it. I found some fun items just by browsing around. Posh, and fun!

It’s supermarket shopping, but not as we know it. Waitrose in Marylebone High Street is a hybrid between a regular Waitrose and a market.
From the moment you walk in, you know you’re somewhere special. The fruit and vegetable section heaves with organic specialties. Keep going and you find an impressive range of specialist food counters featuring cheese, meats, fish, take away hot meals, and there’s even an olive bar. The effect is more market than supermarket. You’ll find all your usual groceries but you may want to forgo them in favour of some of the many locally (within 30 miles of the store) sourced products.
The range of stock is truly impressive and your conscience will be clear as you enjoy your ethically sourced goodies.
The shop is generously proportioned and, even on a Saturday afternoon visit, does not feel crowded. I’m not usually one to browse in supermarkets but here I make an exception.
Pricey, maybe, but a pleasure.
