A striking converted shipping container within the innovative POPBRIXTON community is where Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen now calls home. Zoe’s cosy new restaurant offers a selection of her most popular dishes showcasing her contemporary twist on traditional Ghanaian flavours.

Born from creating a ‘pop-up’ Ghanaian restaurant in her live/workspace in Hackney Wick in the summer of 2011 as part of Hackney Wicked Arts Festival, Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen has grown with popular demand. We cater for Christmas, birthday and wedding parties and instals the ZGK ‘pop-up’ experience across the UK and Europe, also serving Street Food at various Festivals!

Went on the second last night before Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen moved to a different location. From what I gathered, it has always been a pop-up kitchen and previously it was popping up in Hackney which was not the easiest place for me to get to. So when we heard that it’s now popped up in covent garden, we immediately went to check it out. It was set up in the African Centre close to the Covent Garden market with kind of a small space. We ordered yam balls, red red, Nkantekwan and chicken wrap to share. I quite like the texture of the yam balls, it’s kind of like a deep fried pumpkin dough but not as sweet. My favorite thought is the Nkantekwan, which is actually chunks of lamb cooked in a sweet curry like sauce (but not spicy) with stirred-in smashed peanuts. The sauce was really good, and I thought it will go well with rice, which was available as a side but we didn’t order that unfortunately. Portions are a bit small but I guess it is understandable for a pop-up. I would say the menu selection is quite limited but again that’s understandable as it is a pop-up. Definitely a good option if you want to try Ghanaian cooking in small doses to see if you like it. They would need to develop the menu though if they want to open a full blown restaurant. But I guess as of now, keep popping up all over London as I haven’t seen another Ghanaian restaurant in central London yet.
