A Taste Of Manchester @ The Butcher’s Quarter

I couldn’t wait for this Unilocal event; drinking prosecco is my favourite past time!
I wasn’t sure what to expect from these guys on arrival knowing they had a small space to fill inside their shop. However, I had already finished a small tipple (bottle of fizz) before arriving and was in good spirits. The food was a warm welcome on arrival with plenty of mozzarella, tomatoes and cured meats to pick at.
Inside was a fab space with big glass cabinets to store the meats and a wall length wine fridge and shelving to display their prosecco! We were introduced to Prosecco Pete (my new favourite man) and he explained we would be tasting 5 different italian fizzes along with some nibbles and meats they sold.
Prosecco Pete was knowledgable, friendly and such a laugh! Giving us all an intimate and classic wine tasting he was enthusiastic about the taste and what to expect to pay per bottle. Needless to say, 5 glasses later, I was already slightly worse for wear! Thank god it was a Friday night…
What I wasn’t expecting was so much amazing food from these guys on top of the boozy filed fun. From melt in the mouth chicken wings in a tangy sauce to ribs that just fell apart.
Next time I have company round I have a feeling I will give the NQ Butcher’s a visit to stock up on the booze and meats! Amazing night guys — thanks for all the effort that went in to organising this fantastic event!

What a great way to end the week — Friday night prosecco tasting in the Butchers Quarter with a taster of freshly cooked products from the butchers themselves.
Unlike previous tasting events, this was totally relaxed as well as being educational, plus the various glasses of prosecco were absolutely delicious — it was clear from the beginning that no one would be walking out sober!
I think the staff were charming and their friendliness was a breath of fresh air, they were clearly passionate about what they do but wanted to ensure that we all had a good time, which I think I speak for everyone when I say they did a wonderful job.
The selection of cured meats and olives were a nice appetiser to begin with whilst we were welcomed and introduced to the butchers and their staff (including the addition of the prosecco expert). Following the came the absolutely divine chicken wings, ribs and mini meatballs. A nice little taster to show off the quality and tenderness of their meat selection — definitely on my list of places to return to :)

I have to admit, when we arrived and I saw how small the venue was I wasn’t sure how this ecent was going to work, but my word, definitely up there wih one of the best events I’ve been on! The prosecco tastig was amazing, run by the very down to earth Pete… so nice not to be a snobby atmosphere! The food put on by the butchers quarter was all amazing, sticky beef ribs were my fave! As an added bonus this event was also on a friday so could let loose with no work looming the next day!!!
I’ll defintely be checking out the Butchers quarter for some top notch meat!!!

Friday night in a butchers drinking prosecco? That’s exactly what we did as us Unilocalers squeezed into the newly opened The Butcher’s Quarter who source their produce within 20 miles. Whilst I was waiting for everyone to arrive before the formalities could commence I was highly impressed with lots of the features within the shop such as the cleaver door handle, the text on the wooden crates, impressive logo, cool screensavers and the presentation of the produce.
Prosecco Pete is a proud, enthusiastic man and all samples of prosecco that we tasted were excellent. At the time, I absorbed the information about his family, how and where the grapes were grown but as the prosecco flowed I was tickled by his pronunciation of «brut».
As well as prosecco there were cold meats and cured meats beautifully marinaded. My favourite was the ribs which fell off the bone followed by mini burgers with a delightful sauce. I had a chat with both Steve and Rowan from the Butcher’s Quarter later on in the Common and they too are proud of their achievements and the quality of meat that they sell.
I definitely will be back with my other half to buy their meat, chutneys and of course prosecco.

I’m very glad this one was on a Friday night as I doubt I could have got up for work the next day — the prosecco was flowing!
I knew I’d love this event the moment I booked onto it, and it did not disappoint. I’d never been to The Butcher’s Quarter but I was really excited to go there, and really impressed with the choice of a butcher’s shop for an event.
Prosecco Pete was a delight. He really knows his stuff and his knowledge was very accessible. Despite information overload I didn’t feel like it was going over my head. I enjoyed all the fizz we tried, including the pink ones which I’m not sure I would have ever chosen for myself.
The food laid on for us by The Butcher’s Quarter was also excellent. The olives were HUGE! The chicken wings were some of the best I’ve had. The mini burgers with chimichurri were incredible, and the mini kebabs were delicious.
Looking around the shop through the evening, I noticed that the meat on offer looked excellent. Although it wasn’t cheap, you can get some good deals, ie. the gym pack. I can’t remember exactly what you get in this but it’s a LOT of meat for £35. It’s meant as a week of meat for two people, but if you don’t eat meat every day and you have freezer space it would last you a lot longer.
I suppose I can’t blame Prosecco Pete, the guys from The Butcher’s Quarter or Matty F for my decision to continue drinking prosecco at Common — that was my own doing (and that of Jess H and Kate W). I can however thank them all for a great evening!

A truly excellent event — as soon as I saw the combination of The Butcher’s Quarter and a Friday evening of prosecco, I knew I had to confirm my interest!
We have purchased meat from The Butcher’s Quarter before and were hugely impressed both with the quality of the product and the service itself. Staff are friendly and more than willing to help with everything from serving size to cooking instructions, so don’t worry if you’re entirely sure what you’re in the mood for. This was only reflected further in their excellent service throughout this event.
There were a number of food items on planks down the counter, starting with dried and cured meats and some tomato and mozzarella, then moving on to a hot selection of ribs and chicken as the evening progressed. The ribs were truly standout, falling off the bone, with a delicious marinade. I also made my way through plenty of the small kebabs!
The prosecco side of the evening was directed by everyone’s new best friend, Prosecco Pete. We were guided through five glasses of the fizz, ranging in levels of sweetness/​dryness. He had plenty of advice for us on this particular tipple which I’m sure we’ll all be taking to hear to ensure we make the most of our purchases!
What this event truly highlighted for me was how The Butcher’s Quarter is a one-​stop-​shop to the perfect evening in. High-​quality meat, wine and condiments are all available, and what more do you need than that?

A wonderful evening of fine meats and wine (at least two very decent Prosecco’s in there). It was lovely being welcomed by The Butcher’s Quarter which is a fairly new (7 months) shop in the heart of the Northern Quarter in Manchester, it is so magnificent to find a good butcher, in the city, that knows the history of all their meat and is knowledgeable about what to cook with it too.
The Pastrami was the star of the cold meats we started with, I do love a good smoked ham but this pastrami (beef) and its peppery coating was as good as it gets (there are few better that I have ever had in this country). The short ribs were super as was the other hot food, but I guess we were very taken with the wine tasting that took place while we here. I will be back to this place and not just for meat and wine, I suspect knowledge too. Good to feel educated when buying good quality meat.

What a fantastic, and very different event which I thoroughly enjoyed. Who would ever have imagined going to a Unilocal event in a Butchers shop!!!
Introductions came from the owner of the Butchers quarter who explained about how all their meat is sourced from farms within 20 miles of Manchester. Various canapés were provided including mini kebabs of chicken, beef and lamb. There were ribs, chicken wings and mini burgers as well as some cold salamis and olives. There appeared to be more than enough for everyone which is great.
The star of the night was ‘Prosecco Pete’ whose family come from a region north of Venice. Pete talked us through 5 different Proseccos and explained what to look out for, and what to look for on the label when buying Prosecco. One of the Proseccos was a rosé, but was particularly dry in taste. Quite a surprise.
I’m looking forward to visiting the Butchers Quarter again when they are open to buy some meat and maybe treat myself to some fizz at Christmas!

An outstanding event! Starting a Friday night in a butchers is not the norm! The Butcher’s Quarter (TBQ) is a lovely shop which opened back in March. Its the first butchers in Manchester city centre.
When everyone arrived, we heard from Matt and then from the guys at TBQ — the owner Steve and the butcher Rowan. We heard more about TBQ and how long they’ve been around and how they source all their meat from within 20 miles.
We started the evening tasting 5 different Proseccos — from the excellent Prosecco Pete — who knew basically everything there was to know about prosecco. Its kind of in his DNA as his family was from one of the main places in Italy (Venice) where the Glera grape — which is what its main from — is grown. Also learnt that prosecco must be 85% Glera grape and that generally (unlike champagne) prosecco should be drunk within 3 years — when its as young as possible.
As Natalie W has mentioned, you can get 3 of the proseccos we tasted from TBQ and I would recommend all of them.
All of the proseccos tasted great, with different «levels» of sweetness/​dryness.
To go with the prosecco, we had some dry and cured meats and olives. We also then got some absolutely delicious cooked meats mostly served on the bone — super tasty, tender, YUM. Ribs, chicken wings, meatballs, mini burgers. SO GOOD! The ribs were the standout. My mouth is watering now thinking about it! The ribs were made with different marinades and rubs with various spices etc like Chinese 5 Spice. (I think TBQ may sell the marinades/​rubs??)
Thanks to Matt, Prosecco Pete and everyone at The Butcher’s Quarter. I certainly plan to visit them again.

A lovely way to spend a Friday evening.
This Unilocal Elite event involved a few (more than a few) great glasses of Prosecco from lovely Prosecco Pete. All the prosecco that we tried over the course of the evening can be bought from The Butchers Quarter. Ace! They also sell Nyetimber! My all-​time favourite English Sparkling wine. SOLD.
The dry and cured meats on offer were sublime! And i couldn’t get enough of the huge chunky green olives! The hot meats consisted of ribs and chicken, served on the bone and so so tender the meat just melted in your mouth. So good.
I couldn’t imagine a better event, everything about it was excellent. Thank you to Matt F. for organising such a great get together!
The Butchers Qtr will be my local butchers from now on!

A super event on a Friday night and what better way to spend it drinking Prosecco and eating fine meats whilst learning everything we needed to know about Prosecco. Every bottle of this fine stuff is available from this little place which is a Butchers right in the heart of the Northern Quarter.
We got to sample 5 amazing Prosecco’s which Pete told us about each one and everything we needed to know from this great sparkling wine,
Throughout the evening we were served with many different meats i particularly liked the mini burgers and the fine meat which fell of the bone.
This was my first event from the new guy Matt but he did a fine job on putting on this great Friday evening event in the ever changing Northern Quarter!

Outstanding event in every way. The Butcher’s Quarter is a beautiful shop in the NQ (the money and time they have spent on it clearly worthwhile) and provided very warm and inviting surroundings for Friday night meat and prosecco tasting.
The premise was obviously great but the event still exceeded my expectations with a fascinating, detailed and entertaining presentation about prosecco from Prosecco Pete (who does private events jfyi for my next bday). Three of the five drinks we sampled are available from the Butcher’s Quarter and I would recommend them all (also I think it’s testament to the quality of the shop that they take sourcing their produce so seriously). It was so interesting, to contrast the vino spumante rose cuvee with the first prosecco, the former having a sweeter strawberry flavour. Also one of them tasted like a campino in a very good way. Our final drink, the cirotto, was as we were told and even my uneducated palate could tell a very fine example and recommended for Christmas morning with some panettone. I have already notified my dad of this plan.
So, the meat. It was all excellent but I in particular loved the ribs which were in a decadent marinade and fell right off the bone, and the mini hamburgers which were the best I’ve ever had. There are, I noticed, four types of bacon at affordable prices and also some delicious looking pies. The generosity of our hosts, who also provided some fabulous olives, was much appreciated by all.
