History
Established in 1857.
Forsyth Music Shop was formed by the original Forsyth Brothers, who came up from London to supply high quality musical instruments to the musicians of the newly formed Halle Orchestra. The music shop opened in 1857, and has occupied it’s current historic premises on Deansgate in the heart of Manchester since the 1880s. We are proud to have remained independent ever since, and are still owned and run by the descendants of the Forsyth family, now in the hands of its fifth generation.
Pianos remain at the heart of the business, with the largest piano floor in the country and an extensive piano workshop at the top of the building. In recent years our selection of guitars (acoustic, Spanish and electric), ukuleles, banjos, banjoleles and mandolins has increased hugely as these instruments have become increasingly popular. We have also opened a dedicated stringed instrument room, where customers can try out a wide selection of violins, violas, cellos and double basses in peace.
