History

Established in 1889.

The H. Blyth & Co. we know today came into existence in 1889. In a Victorian era full of innovation and promise, H. Blyth & Co. prospered from its base on Deansgate long before before all the existing shops we recognise today.

H.Blyth &Co was originally set up in 1889 by Edward Schery. Edward died in 1915 and left the company to a 37 year old Harry Blyth who is suspected to have worked at the company for some time to gain such trust and confidence. Because of the war and the anti German sentiment, Harry changed the name to H. Blyth&Co and set to expanding the business. At the time the British Empire was the largest the world had ever seen, and likely to be the largest there ever will be. Trafford park, the first industrial estate in the world, became a booming centre for manufacturing and H. Blyth & Co supplied drawing materials to companies such as Rolls Royce and GEC.
